Getting from Tenerife South Airport to your hotel with kids

Tenerife is one of Europe's top family holiday destinations, and TFS handles enormous volumes of family travellers. The southern resort area is well-suited to families — waterparks, calm beaches, extensive hotel infrastructure — and the airport arrival process is manageable with children.

The terminal with children

TFS is a single-storey terminal, accessible and clear. Baby changing facilities are available. Baggage trolleys can be used throughout. The walk from arrivals to the taxi rank is short — a genuine plus with tired children and loaded trolleys.

In peak periods (school holiday weeks especially), the baggage hall is busy and waits can be 30-40 minutes. Ensure children have water and a snack from the flight or from the arrivals area before the journey.

Child seats

Tenerife taxis do not carry child seats. Spanish law requires appropriate restraints for children under 135 cm. If your children need car seats, bring your own or pre-book a transfer with the seat specified.

For families with a hire car booked, the rental company will provide a seat if pre-ordered. Do this at the time of booking — on-the-day requests are not always fulfilled.

For transfer bookings, specify child ages and weights so the correct seat type is provided.

Transport for families

Pre-booked private transfer or minivan: The best option for families, particularly with young children. The driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign, the vehicle handles your luggage, and child seats are pre-arranged. For a family of four or more, a minivan transfer is spacious and practical.

Taxi: Works for families with older children. The rank is right outside arrivals. For the southern resorts, the journey is 20-35 minutes — very manageable. Request a larger vehicle at the rank if you have heavy luggage.

TITSA bus: Not well-suited for families with young children and full holiday luggage. Manageable for families with older children and minimal bags going to Los Cristianos.

Reaching family resort areas

Tenerife South's main family resort zones:

• Playa de las Americas / Los Cristianos (17-20 km): The main resort hub. All-inclusive hotels, Siam Park waterpark nearby. Taxi EUR 20-32, 20-30 min.
• Costa Adeje / Las Americas (22-28 km): Upmarket family hotels and beaches. Taxi EUR 25-38, 25-35 min.
• Torviscas / Fañabé (27-32 km): Pleasant family area, good beaches. Taxi EUR 27-40, 25-35 min.
• Los Gigantes (42 km): Cliff and whale-watching resort. Quieter and more scenic. Taxi EUR 45-60, 40-50 min.
• El Médano (8 km): Beach town close to the airport, popular with families who want a less commercial setting. Taxi EUR 18-25, 12-18 min.

Practical tips

• Book child seats in advance, not on the day. If using a transfer company, specify age and weight at booking. If renting a car, pre-order the seat.
• Siam Park is near Playa de las Americas. If your holiday includes a park visit, it is easily reachable from any southern resort by taxi or bus.
• Early arrivals benefit from the bus. If you land in the afternoon with manageable luggage and older children, the EUR 3.35 TITSA bus to Los Cristianos is a genuine family option.
• Pre-book for Puerto de la Cruz. If staying in the north, the 80-minute journey with children warrants pre-booking a transfer for certainty.
