Cost of getting from Prague Airport to the city

Prague Airport is about 17 km from the city centre. Transport is affordable compared to most Western European capitals. Here is what to realistically expect, with prices in both Czech koruna and approximate euro equivalents.

By transport type

Trolleybus 59 + metro: A 90-minute PID ticket per person covers the trolleybus ride to Nadrazi Veleslavin and the metro into the centre: 46 CZK in the PID Litacka app or 50 CZK on paper under the tariff in force since 1 January 2026. Cheapest option by a wide margin. (Note: trolleybus 59 replaced the old bus 119 in 2024.)

Airport Express bus: CZK 200 per person to the main train station (Praha hlavni nadrazi). Direct, no connection needed.

Rideshare (Bolt/Uber): priced dynamically by demand and destination, and shown in the app before you confirm. Usually the cheapest door-to-door option, but there is no fixed figure worth quoting -- check the app when you land.

Taxi: Prague caps metered taxi fares by city regulation at 60 CZK to start, 36 CZK per kilometre and 7 CZK per minute of waiting (Prague City Hall; cap last set in 2020). Over the 17 km from the airport that puts the meter at roughly 670 CZK before any waiting time, so expect around 700-900 CZK (EUR 29-37) into the centre once traffic is counted. Note that the official taxi service at the airport is now Uber Airport, which quotes the fare before you book rather than running a meter.

Pre-booked transfer: CZK 700-1200 (EUR 29-49) for a sedan. Fixed price confirmed at booking.

By destination

Rideshare prices move with demand and are only knowable in the app at the moment you book, so this guide does not publish a per-district table for them. For a metered taxi you can work out the ceiling yourself from the regulated cap: 60 CZK to start plus 36 CZK per kilometre, plus 7 CZK per minute of waiting.

Most central districts -- Old Town (Stare Mesto), New Town (Wenceslas Square), Mala Strana, Vinohrady and Zizkov -- sit roughly 15-19 km from the airport, which puts a metered fare in the 600-900 CZK range before heavy traffic. Smichov is slightly closer and correspondingly cheaper. A pre-booked transfer to central Prague is typically CZK 700-1200 for a sedan, fixed at booking.

Currency warning

The Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (CZK), not the euro. If anyone at the airport or in a taxi quotes you a price in euros, be cautious. The conversion may not be in your favour.

Avoid the currency exchange counters at the airport. They advertise zero commission but compensate with terrible exchange rates. Use an ATM instead. Your bank's exchange rate and ATM fee will almost certainly be better.

Cost per person comparison

For a solo traveller to the Old Town:

• Trolleybus 59 + metro: one 90-minute PID ticket, 46 CZK in the app or 50 CZK on paper
• Rideshare: dynamic, shown in the app before you confirm
• Taxi: roughly CZK 700-900 (EUR 29-37) at the regulated meter rate
• Transfer: CZK 750-1100 (EUR 31-45)

For two people sharing:

• Trolleybus 59 + metro: two 90-minute PID tickets
• Rideshare: dynamic, split between you
• Taxi: roughly CZK 700-900 total, CZK 350-450 each
• Transfer: CZK 750-1100 total, CZK 375-550 each

The bus is the clear winner on price. For couples and groups, taxis and transfers become reasonable per person.

Saving money

• Trolleybus 59 + metro is the budget king. The connection is well designed and runs frequently during the day.
• Rideshare apps are consistently cheaper than taxi rank cars. Install Bolt or Uber before you land.
• If using a taxi, agree on the approximate fare before departing, or at minimum ensure the meter is running.
• Avoid paying for transport in euros. Always use CZK for the best value.
• Some hotels offer airport shuttle services. Check with your accommodation before paying for separate transport.
