Nice airport handles flights until late evening, and occasional delays push arrivals past midnight. Here is what changes when you land after dark.
Tram and bus availability
The tram (Line 2) runs until approximately 01:00, with the last departure from the airport around that time. If your flight lands before midnight, you can likely still catch the tram to the city center. However, if immigration and baggage take a while, you may miss the last service. Check the current timetable before relying on it.
Buses follow a similar schedule, with most services ending around 21:00-22:00. Night buses exist on some routes but do not serve the airport directly.
After public transport stops, you are limited to taxis and pre-booked transfers.
Taxis at night
Taxis are available at the ranks outside both terminals even late at night. The flat rate of EUR 32 to Nice city center applies regardless of the hour, so there is no night surcharge for trips within Nice.
For destinations beyond Nice (Monaco, Cannes, Antibes), taxis are metered, and while there is no formal night surcharge, fewer drivers are available for longer runs late at night. If heading to Monaco at midnight, you may find it harder to secure a taxi willing to make the trip. A pre-booked transfer is more reliable.
The drive at night
The short distance from the airport to Nice city center means the late-night drive is quick, often under 15 minutes. The Promenade des Anglais runs along the seafront and is the most common route. At night, with minimal traffic, it is a pleasant drive with the Mediterranean on one side.
For longer Riviera transfers (Monaco, Cannes), the coastal roads and autoroute are clear at night. The drive to Monaco takes about 25-30 minutes without traffic, compared to 40-60 minutes during the day.
Safety
Nice is generally safe at night, and the airport area is well-lit and patrolled. The Promenade des Anglais is a public space that remains active into the late hours during summer. Standard city awareness applies: keep valuables close and be aware of your surroundings.
Practical tips
- Check the tram schedule before your trip. If your flight is due to land after 23:00, plan for a taxi or transfer rather than counting on the tram.
- The flat taxi rate to Nice center (EUR 32) does not change at night. Know this in advance so you are not quoted a higher figure.
- If heading to a Riviera destination beyond Nice, book a transfer. The certainty of having a driver at any hour is worth it for longer journeys.
- ATMs inside the terminals work around the clock. Withdraw euros before exiting if you need cash.
- Many Nice restaurants close their kitchens by 22:00-22:30. If arriving late and hungry, check if your hotel offers late dining or identify nearby options in advance.
- In summer, the Old Town bars and restaurants stay open later, so getting food after a late arrival is easier than in the off-season.
