Naples Airport handles flights throughout the night. Late-night arrivals are common on seasonal routes and delayed services. Here is what to expect.
The terminal after hours
Capodichino operates 24 hours. Immigration and customs process arrivals at any time. Late-night arrivals often move faster through immigration. The arrivals hall has ATMs. Food and coffee are minimal after midnight. The terminal is compact and navigating out is simple.
What stops running
The Alibus runs its last service from the airport around midnight. After that, no regular bus service connects to Napoli Centrale. Most conventional city bus routes also stop late evening.
What keeps running
Taxis are at the rank 24 hours. Night rates (10 PM to 7 AM) apply. Zone 1 night rate: EUR 21 (vs EUR 16 daytime). Zone 2 night rate: EUR 28. Taxi supply late at night is thinner but not absent. At 2-3 AM the wait may be 10-20 minutes.
Pre-booked transfers operate at any hour at the same fixed price. For late-night arrivals — especially to Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast — pre-booking is strongly advised. Arranging a taxi at the airport for a 90-minute coastal drive at midnight is unreliable and expensive.
The Amalfi Coast at night: plan ahead
If your destination is Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, or anywhere on the coast, arriving late requires a pre-booked transfer. Finding a willing taxi driver at Naples Airport at 11 PM for a 90-minute mountain coastal drive is difficult. Drivers may refuse, quote very high prices, or be unavailable. A pre-booked operator who has confirmed the pickup will be there.
Late-night scenarios
Landing at 11 PM: Alibus may still be running — check current schedule. Taxi to city centre (EUR 21 night rate) is the reliable fallback.
Landing at 12:30 AM: Alibus has stopped. Taxi from the official rank (EUR 21 to city centre) or pre-booked transfer.
Landing at 2 AM heading to Sorrento: Pre-booked transfer. Do not plan to arrange this on arrival.
Landing at 4 AM: Same options. Taxi or transfer. First Alibus from the airport resumes around 6 AM.
Safety at night
Naples Airport is safe but the tout problem does not stop at night. Unofficial drivers are actually more visible at late-night arrivals when the official rank is quieter. Decline anyone approaching you inside the terminal. Use the outdoor official rank or your pre-arranged driver. Naples city centre at night is generally safe for visitors in main areas. Avoid Piazza Garibaldi surroundings on foot at 3 AM with luggage.
Night premium for Amalfi Coast
For Amalfi Coast destinations at night, transfer prices may carry a small night supplement (EUR 10-20 depending on the operator and destination). This is legitimate given the additional demands of driving mountain coastal roads at night. Even with a supplement, a pre-booked transfer is significantly cheaper than negotiating with an airport taxi for the same journey.
