Late night arrival at Munich Airport — what are your options?

Last updated: April 2026

Munich Airport handles flights until late at night. Last arrivals are typically around midnight. Here's what transport is available after dark.

What's available late at night

The last S-Bahn

The S-Bahn runs later than you might expect. The last trains depart around 1:00-1:15 AM. If your flight lands before midnight, you should comfortably make the last train (allow 20-30 minutes for baggage and walking to the platform).

The S1 and S8 have slightly different schedules — check the MVV website or app for exact departure times on your travel date.

Important: If you land at midnight and clear customs at 12:30 AM, you have about 30-45 minutes to reach the S-Bahn platform. It's tight but doable if you move quickly.

Taxis at night

Munich airport taxis operate 24/7. There are usually cabs at the rank even after midnight. Munich doesn't have a significant night surcharge — the meter rate barely changes. Expect the same €75-95 to the city center.

The drive is actually faster at night (30-35 minutes vs. 40-50 in traffic), so your fare might be slightly lower.

Night bus N80

After the last S-Bahn, the N80 night bus runs from the airport to the city center. It operates roughly every 60 minutes through the night. It takes longer than the S-Bahn (60-80 minutes) and isn't the most comfortable option, but it exists.

The N80 is covered by the same fare structure as the S-Bahn — a single ticket (€13.60) or day pass works.

Pre-booked transfer at night

For late arrivals, the transfer option provides:

  • Driver tracking your flight and adjusting for delays
  • Waiting in the arrivals hall with your name
  • Fixed price regardless of the hour
  • Direct drive — no waiting for night buses

The price (€80-120) is comparable to a taxi. The main advantage is guaranteed presence — no uncertainty about whether a taxi will be at the rank at 1:30 AM.

The airport at night

Munich Airport stays open 24 hours. Facilities available overnight:

  • Seating areas in both terminals
  • Napcabs — sleeping cabins available for rent (from €15 for a few hours)
  • Hilton Munich Airport — connected to the terminal (from €120/night)
  • Novotel Munich Airport — short shuttle ride
  • Showers available in the airport

If you're facing a very late arrival followed by an early departure, the Napcabs (sleeping pods inside the terminal) are an excellent Munich-specific option.

Oktoberfest late nights

During Oktoberfest (late September - early October), late-night transport is strained:

  • Taxi queues at the airport are longer
  • S-Bahn trains are packed (everyone heading back from the festival)
  • Pre-booked transfers are essential during this period
  • Book well in advance
