KWI - Kuwait City

Getting from Kuwait Airport to the city with kids and family

Last updated: March 2026

Kuwait Airport is manageable with children. The terminal is modern, the distance to the city is short, and the main consideration is the extreme heat if you are visiting between May and October.

The heat factor for families

This is the single most important consideration for families arriving in Kuwait. Summer temperatures routinely exceed 45 degrees Celsius, sometimes reaching 50. Stepping outside the terminal with babies or young children in this heat is a genuine concern. During summer months, a pre-booked transfer that meets you inside the air-conditioned terminal is not optional. It is necessary.

Even in winter (November to March), temperatures can be warm by European standards, around 15-25 degrees. This is actually a pleasant time to visit with family.

Airport facilities

KWI has baby changing facilities and family restrooms. The newer terminal sections are well-equipped. There are shops selling basic supplies and a few cafes in the arrivals area. The airport is fully accessible with ramps and elevators.

Best transport option for families

A pre-booked minivan is the most practical choice for families. It costs KWD 12-20 (EUR 36-60) to the city centre and accommodates a family of 4-5 with luggage comfortably. The driver meets you inside the terminal and helps with bags.

Child seats can be requested when booking. Specify the type you need: rear-facing infant seat, forward-facing toddler seat, or booster seat. Kuwait's roads are modern and well-maintained, but traffic can be aggressive, so proper child restraints matter.

Standard taxi with kids

Taxis can work for families with older children and light luggage. A sedan fits 2 adults and 2 children with moderate baggage. The fare to the city centre is KWD 5-8 (EUR 15-24). However, standard taxis do not carry child seats, and you will need to wait at the outdoor rank.

Timing tips

Avoid arriving during afternoon rush hours (3-5 PM) when traffic is heaviest and the sun is at its worst. If possible, schedule flights for morning or late evening arrivals. Friday is the quietest traffic day in Kuwait.

The journey to the city is only 15-25 minutes, so even with children, the transfer itself is not difficult. The main challenge is the transition from terminal to vehicle, especially in summer heat.
