KUN - Kaunas

How Much Does It Cost to Get from Kaunas Airport to the City?

Kaunas airport is 14 km from the city center, and Lithuania uses the euro — so pricing is straightforward with no currency conversion surprises.

Pricing breakdown (2026)

City bus (route 29G / airport express): About 0.80-1.20 EUR per person. If you have a Lithuanian public transport card (Kauno Autobusai e-ticket), you pay the lower rate. Buying a ticket from the driver costs a bit more. This is by far the cheapest option, though the ride takes 30-40 minutes and the bus is a standard city bus without luggage storage.

Bolt (ride-hailing app): 15-25 EUR to central Kaunas. Bolt shows you the price before you confirm, so there are no surprises. Surge pricing can apply during peak hours or when multiple flights land simultaneously, but it rarely exceeds 30 EUR even at its worst.

Taxi from the rank: Similar to Bolt pricing, 15-25 EUR. Some taxis use meters, others quote a flat fare. If taking a rank taxi, ask for the price before you get in. Bolt is generally the safer bet for transparent pricing.

Pre-booked private transfer: 20-35 EUR for a sedan (up to 3 passengers), 30-45 EUR for a minivan (up to 7 passengers). The price includes meet-and-greet and flight tracking.

Transfer to Vilnius: 60-100 EUR for a private car. This is the big one — if you are flying into Kaunas but staying in Vilnius, this is a significant additional cost. Budget bus alternatives exist (5-10 EUR from Kaunas bus station to Vilnius) but require getting to the bus station first.

What affects the price

Time of day has a minor impact. Late-night Bolt rides might be slightly more expensive due to fewer drivers. Pre-booked transfers generally maintain the same price regardless of time.

Destination within Kaunas matters. Old Town and the central area (Laisves Aleja, Naujamiestis) are the standard distance. Aleksotas, Sanciai, or Garliava cost a bit more. Pricing to Kaunas suburbs might add 5-10 EUR.

Luggage does not affect the price for taxis or transfers. The bus has no luggage fee but limited space.

The cost comparison

For a solo traveler, the bus at 1 EUR is unbeatable on price. For two people sharing a Bolt, 15-25 EUR split two ways is still very reasonable. A pre-booked transfer at 20-35 EUR makes financial sense for groups of 3-4 who would otherwise take separate taxis, and the convenience premium is modest. The real cost question is whether you are going to Kaunas or Vilnius — because that changes the math entirely.
