A note on the numbers
Neither a Gdansk taxi nor a transfer has a published city fare you can look up in advance. Taxi meters run on each operator's own rate card, which must be displayed in the vehicle; Bolt and Uber quote in the app; a transfer is fixed at booking. Those are the three real sources of a price here — read the card, check the app, or book. The train, by contrast, does have a published fare, which is why it appears below.
When the taxi wins
For a quick daytime trip to central Gdansk, the taxi is perfectly fine. GDN has a reliable taxi rank, meters are used, and the ride is short. You're in the car within minutes and at your hotel in 20-25 minutes. Check the rate card on the window before you get in.
Bolt and Uber are usually cheaper if you don't mind a few minutes' wait.
When a transfer wins
Night arrivals: The taxi night tariff (Taryfa 2) narrows the gap with a transfer, whose price doesn't change after dark. Worth comparing the two on the night you actually arrive.
Families: Child seats in a transfer. Not available in taxis. Safety matters.
Groups to Sopot/Gdynia: A fixed transfer price is competitive with a metered taxi over that distance, with the advantage of knowing the number in advance.
Malbork, Hel, or other distant destinations: Fixed pricing for long trips beats the meter every time. A transfer to Malbork Castle (60 km) is settled before you leave, rather than watching the meter climb for an hour.
Don't forget the train
Before debating taxi vs transfer, remember the SKM/PKM train:
- 8.50 PLN single city ticket to the city center (Taryfa Pomorska, from 1 March 2026)
- 25-30 minutes
- Runs every 15-30 minutes during the day
For solo travelers and couples with manageable luggage, the train makes both taxis and transfers unnecessary. The debate only matters when the train doesn't work for your situation (late night, heavy luggage, families, destinations off the train line).

- Daytime, Sopot/Gdynia: Train if near a station (Tri-City ticket, 12.50 PLN). Taxi or transfer otherwise.
