GDN - Gdansk

Taxi vs private transfer from Gdansk Airport

Last updated: March 2026

At Gdansk, both options are affordable and the distances are short. The choice comes down to specific needs.

Head-to-head comparison

| Factor | Taxi | Private transfer | |---|---|---| | Price to city center | 60-80 PLN (€13-18) metered | €18-25 fixed | | Night price | 80-110 PLN (€18-24) | Same as day | | Waiting | Usually available, 0-5 min | Pre-booked, driver waits | | Payment | Cash or card (confirm first) | Pre-paid online | | Child seats | Not available | Available on request | | Meet & greet | No | Yes — name sign in arrivals | | Flight monitoring | No | Yes |

When the taxi wins

For a quick daytime trip to central Gdansk, the taxi is perfectly fine. GDN has a reliable taxi rank, meters are used, and the price is modest. You're in the car within minutes and at your hotel in 20-25 minutes.

Bolt and Uber are even cheaper (45-65 PLN) if you don't mind a few minutes' wait.

When a transfer wins

Night arrivals: The taxi night surcharge (50% more) narrows the price gap with transfers. A night taxi costs 80-110 PLN (€18-24), while a transfer stays at €18-25. At night, the transfer is better value.

Families: Child seats in a transfer. Not available in taxis. Safety matters.

Groups to Sopot/Gdynia: A transfer to Sopot at €22-32 fixed is competitive with a metered taxi (80-100 PLN), with the advantage of a guaranteed price.

Malbork, Hel, or other distant destinations: Fixed pricing for long trips beats the meter every time. A transfer to Malbork Castle (60 km) at €60-85 is more predictable than watching the meter climb.

Don't forget the train

Before debating taxi vs transfer, remember the SKM train:

  • 3.80 PLN (under €1) to the city center
  • 25-30 minutes
  • Runs every 15-30 minutes during the day
For solo travelers and couples with manageable luggage, the train makes both taxis and transfers unnecessary. The debate only matters when the train doesn't work for your situation (late night, heavy luggage, families, destinations off the train line).

Price comparison for common destinations

| Destination | Taxi (day) | Taxi (night) | Transfer | |---|---|---|---| | Gdańsk Old Town | 65-85 PLN (€14-19) | 90-120 PLN (€20-26) | €18-25 | | Sopot | 80-100 PLN (€18-22) | 110-140 PLN (€24-31) | €22-32 | | Gdynia | 100-140 PLN (€22-31) | 140-190 PLN (€31-42) | €30-42 | | Malbork | 250-300 PLN (€55-65) | 350-420 PLN (€77-92) | €60-85 |

Our take

  • Daytime, city center: Take the train (€0.85) or a Bolt (€10-14).
  • Daytime, Sopot/Gdynia: Train if near a station. Taxi or transfer otherwise.
  • Night arrival: Transfer — same price as daytime, guaranteed availability.
  • Families: Transfer with child seat.
  • Long distance (Malbork, Hel): Transfer for fixed pricing.
