Fortaleza Airport is 10 km south of the main beach neighborhoods. Transport costs are very affordable by international standards, especially if you use ride-hailing apps.

Costs to beach destinations
Transfer prices are fixed at booking. Taxi figures are the municipal meter tariff (below) applied to the distance on the day rate — add roughly 30% on the night/Sunday rate. For Uber and 99, use the estimate the app gives you before you confirm.

| Praia de Iracema | 10 km | ~47 | 100–150 |

| Cumbuco | 35 km | ~149 | 180–280 |

Why Uber/99 is usually cheapest
Brazilian ride-hailing prices are significantly lower than in Europe or North America, and a standard UberX or 99Pop ride from FOR Airport to Meireles normally undercuts a taxi. We are not going to print a figure for it: ride-hailing is dynamically priced, so any number here would be wrong as often as right. The app quotes you before you confirm — that is the number to use.
The catch: surge pricing applies during peak hours (morning rush 7–9 AM, evening 5–8 PM) and holidays like Carnival. Prices can double or triple during surges. Check the app estimate before confirming.
The official taxi tariff
Fortaleza taxis are metered on a municipal tariff, not sold at a fixed rate from the stand. Decreto nº 16.574, signed 8 January 2026 and in force since 19 January 2026, sets:
| Element | Rate |
|---|---|
| Bandeirada (flag-fall) | BRL 6.82 |
| Bandeira 1 — per km | BRL 4.06 |
| Bandeira 2 — per km | BRL 5.28 |
| Hora parada (waiting, per hour) | BRL 40.59 |
Bandeira 2 applies 20:00–06:00 on weekdays, from 13:00 on Saturdays, and all day on Sundays and public holidays. So the same 10 km run to Praia de Iracema is about BRL 47 on a Tuesday afternoon and about BRL 60 on a Sunday. The rate table must be displayed inside the cab; the tariff rose 18.7% in January 2026 and is revised periodically, so check the current one.
Tipping
Tipping taxi drivers in Brazil is not mandatory. Rounding up the fare is appreciated but not expected. For transfer drivers, a small tip is a kind gesture for good service.
