CDG - Paris

Paris CDG with kids: the family survival guide

Last updated: March 2026

Let's be real: CDG with kids is stressful. It's the biggest airport in France, the terminals are spread across a vast campus, walks are long, and Paris transport adds another layer of complexity. But with preparation, it's manageable. Here's everything families need to know.

The airport challenge

CDG is not a family-friendly airport by design. It's massive, bureaucratic, and built for efficiency, not comfort. Key things to know:

Terminal 2 is confusing: Sub-terminals 2A through 2G are connected but the walks between them can be 10-20 minutes. With kids and luggage, this is tiring. Check your terminal before landing.

Terminal 3 is basic: Budget carrier terminal with minimal facilities. No play areas, limited food, long walks to transport.

CDGVAL (inter-terminal train): Free and necessary for getting between terminals. It's automated and runs frequently, but it doesn't have seats for everyone during busy times.

Facilities:

  • Baby-changing rooms in all terminals (look for the baby symbol)
  • Nursing rooms in Terminal 2E and 2F
  • Small play areas in some terminals (departures side)
  • Pharmacies in Terminal 2E and 2F
  • Stroller collection at oversized baggage belt

Child seats — the French problem

French law requires child restraints for children under 10 years (or under 135 cm). But in practice:

  • Taxis: No child seats. Period. Legally questionable but universal practice.
  • Uber: No car seat option in Paris.
  • RER B train: No car seats (kids sit on seats or parents' laps)
  • Roissybus: Regular bus seats, no restraints
  • Pre-booked transfers: Can provide child seats (infant, toddler, booster). This is the only reliable option.
If your child is under 4, please don't put them in a French taxi on the A1 motorway without a car seat. The highway driving into Paris can be aggressive. Book a transfer.

Best transport for families

Transfer — the clear family winner

  • Driver inside arrivals with your name — no navigating to taxi ranks or bus stops with kids
  • Child seats pre-installed in the vehicle
  • Minivan option fits the whole family plus luggage plus strollers
  • Fixed price: Sedan €55-85, minivan €75-110
  • Flight tracking: Driver adjusts for delays
  • Direct to hotel door: No metro transfers, no stairs

Taxi — works for older kids

If your children are 10+ and can sit with seatbelts:

  • Fixed fare: €56 (Right Bank) or €65 (Left Bank)
  • But the taxi queue can be 20-45 minutes at peak times
  • Standard sedans fit 3-4 bags — tight with strollers

Roissybus — possible with older kids

The Roissybus to Opéra (€16.60) is comfortable with luggage storage. It works for families with kids who can sit still for 60-75 minutes. Not practical with babies or toddlers.

RER B — avoid with young kids

The train sounds appealing (€11.80, 35-50 min), but with kids it's problematic:

  • Pickpocket risk — you can't watch your bags and your kids simultaneously
  • Crowded during rush hour — no room for strollers
  • Stairs and escalators — not all stations have working elevators
  • Multiple escalator changes at Chatelet-Les Halles
  • With more than one suitcase per person: nightmare

Going to Disneyland Paris with kids

CDG to Disneyland is about 40 km (45-60 minutes by car):

| Option | Price | Time | Family-friendliness | |---|---|---|---| | Magical Shuttle bus | €24/adult, €10/child | 60-90 min | Good (direct) | | Transfer (minivan) | €70-100 | 45-60 min | Excellent (door-to-door) | | Taxi (metered) | €70-90 | 45-60 min | OK (no car seats) | | TGV train | €20-30 | 10 min (but infrequent) | Limited schedules |

For families, a minivan transfer to Disneyland is ideal: child seats, luggage space, and direct to your hotel. The Magical Shuttle is cheaper but involves waiting and transfers.

Practical family tips for CDG

  • Allow extra time for everything. Immigration, bag claim, navigating terminals, finding transport — everything takes longer with kids.
  • Bring snacks. CDG food is expensive and lines are long. Feed the kids before joining any transport queue.
  • Charge devices. The ride to Paris is 40-90 minutes. Tablets with downloaded content keep kids happy in traffic.
  • Dress in layers. The airport is air-conditioned, the transport links vary in temperature, and Paris weather is unpredictable.
  • Buy water at the terminal. Cheaper than buying at restaurants in Paris.
  • Gate-check strollers. You'll get them at the oversized belt. Some airlines return them at the jet bridge.
  • Skip the duty-free walk. CDG forces you through duty-free shops. With kids, just keep walking — it adds 5 minutes to your terminal exit time.
