Arriving at Bangalore Airport Late at Night

Last updated: April 2026

Kempegowda International Airport handles a large volume of international flights arriving between 22:00 and 04:00, including services from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Late-night arrivals are common here, and the airport is well-prepared for them.

What the airport looks like at night

BLR operates 24/7 and remains fully lit, staffed, and functional at all hours. Immigration and customs operate as normal for arriving flights. ATMs are available. Currency exchange counters in the arrivals hall keep limited night hours — check before counting on them. SIM card vendors may close after midnight. Several food outlets remain open for late arrivals.

Transport availability after midnight

OptionAvailable after midnight?Notes
Prepaid taxiYesCounter operates 24/7
Ola / UberYesLonger wait times (15–30 min)
Vayu Vajra busNoLast buses around midnight, resume ~4 AM
Pre-booked transferYesDriver waiting regardless of hour

The prepaid taxi counter runs all night, which is a significant advantage at BLR. You can always get a fixed-rate taxi regardless of the time. Ola and Uber are available but response times increase after midnight — expect 15–30 minute waits as fewer drivers are in the airport area.

The upside: no traffic

The single biggest advantage of arriving at BLR late at night is the absence of traffic. The same journey that takes 90–120 minutes during rush hour can be done in 40–50 minutes after 11 PM. The expressway is clear, the city roads are empty, and the ride is smooth. For the 40 km distance to central Bangalore, this makes a dramatic difference.

Night pricing

Prepaid taxi fares remain the same at night — no surcharge. Ola and Uber do not officially add a night surcharge, but reduced driver availability can cause mild surge pricing. Pre-booked transfers maintain their fixed price regardless of arrival time.

OptionNight fare to city center
Prepaid taxi900–1,200 INR (10–13 EUR) — same as daytime
Ola / Uber800–1,300 INR (9–14 EUR) — mild surge possible
Pre-booked transfer1,800–2,200 INR (20–25 EUR) — fixed

Safety at night

BLR airport and the expressway to the city are well-lit and patrolled. The airport area is considered safe. The expressway is a controlled-access road with no stops. The main safety tip is straightforward: use a prepaid taxi, a ride-hailing app, or a pre-booked transfer. Do not accept rides from unofficial operators inside the terminal.

What if I land at 2–3 AM?

You will be fine. The prepaid taxi counter is open, Ola/Uber will have some cars available (with a wait), and any pre-booked transfer will be there. The terminal has seating if you prefer to wait until Vayu Vajra buses resume at 4 AM. The airport has a pay-per-use lounge if you want to rest before heading into the city.
