BLR - Bangalore

How Much Does It Cost to Get from Bangalore Airport to the City?

Last updated: March 2026

Kempegowda International Airport is about 40 km north of central Bangalore, making it one of the more expensive airport-to-city transfers in India simply due to distance. Here is what each option costs.

Understanding surge pricing

Ola and Uber fares at BLR fluctuate significantly. During peak hours — weekday mornings (8–10 AM) and evenings (5–8 PM) — surge multipliers of 1.5x to 2.5x are common. A ride that costs 700 INR off-peak can easily hit 1,500 INR during rush hour. Rain makes this worse.

The prepaid taxi counter avoids this problem entirely. You pay a fixed rate based on your destination zone, regardless of time or conditions.

Tolls and extras

The road from BLR to the city includes the BIAL expressway toll. For prepaid taxis and pre-booked transfers, the toll is usually included in the fare. For Ola/Uber rides, a toll of approximately 75–100 INR is added to your fare automatically.

There are no parking fees or surcharges at the airport for passenger pickups.

Budget option: Vayu Vajra bus

The BMTC Vayu Vajra service is genuinely good value. Air-conditioned Volvo buses for 250–350 INR per person, with luggage space underneath. The trade-off is time — buses take longer due to stops — and the fact that your final destination may not be right at a bus stop. Factor in an auto-rickshaw from the bus stop to your hotel (50–150 INR) and the total is still well under a taxi fare.

What most travelers actually pay

For a solo traveler to central Bangalore, the most common spend is:

  • Budget: Vayu Vajra bus + auto at destination = 300–450 INR (3.50–5 EUR)
  • Mid-range: Prepaid taxi or off-peak Ola/Uber = 800–1,200 INR (9–13 EUR)
  • Comfort: Pre-booked sedan transfer = 1,800–2,200 INR (20–25 EUR)
  • Premium: Pre-booked SUV transfer = 2,500–3,500 INR (28–39 EUR)
Bangalore airport transfers are not expensive by European standards, but within India, the 40 km distance makes BLR pricier than most.
