The airport's long distance from the city is the first thing to plan for at night. Our route database estimates that the Mexico City boroughs we serve are roughly 28 to 67 km away by road, for example about 28 km to Gustavo A. Madero, about 37 km to Cuauhtemoc and about 43 km to Benito Juarez. These are estimates, not live figures.
The train
According to the airport, the Felipe Angeles train runs from 05:00 to 00:00 on weekdays, from 06:00 to 00:00 on Saturdays and from 07:00 to 00:00 on Sundays and public holidays. The airport quotes an initial journey time of about 60 minutes to Buenavista. If your flight lands at 23:00 or later, passport control and baggage can use up the time you would need to catch the last train, so do not build a plan on it. At Buenavista you would also need onward transport to your hotel, and the airport lists Metro, Metrobus and app-based taxis for that.

Buses
The airport lists bus routes from 19 reference points in the city and metropolitan area. Its page gives the schedule for each route. Check the last departure for the route you want before you rely on it, and note that a bus ends at a reference point rather than at your hotel.
Taxis
The airport lists 11 taxi companies at Level 00 and publishes their contact details. The page does not state their hours and does not give a fare table. At night, agree how the fare is set, and the total, before the car moves. Have your address written down or saved on your phone.
Pre-booked transfers
A pre-booked transfer is arranged before you fly. Give your flight number and address at booking, and check your booking confirmation for how delays are handled and where to meet. If meet-and-greet is included in your booking, the driver meets you as stated there. With a long drive ahead, many tired travellers prefer one ride to the door.
At the airport
The airport website has an interactive map. Open it before you land so you know where Level 00 and the train boarding area are. The boarding area is beside the ground transportation terminal.
The bottom line
At night, avoid a plan that depends on the last train or on a bus timetable you have not read. A taxi or a confirmed pre-booked transfer is the calmer choice. Give your flight number to your transfer provider, and keep your phone charged so that you can show your address and open the airport map when you need it. If a plan falls through, the information points in the terminal are the place to ask.
