Providenciales is a small island, so distances are short and fares are modest. Everything is priced in US dollars, which simplifies things for American visitors.
How taxi pricing works
Taxis in Turks and Caicos use a government-regulated zone-based fare system. This means the fare is determined by your destination zone, not by a meter or negotiation. The rate covers the group rather than the individual, with an additional charge per extra person and, on some trips, per extra bag.

Two caveats matter more than any number. First, the government sets fare limits, and they are not always adhered to -- some drivers charge above them, and the rules get interpreted differently. Second, drivers do not always volunteer the per-person breakdown. So confirm the total before you get in, and be explicit about how many passengers and bags it covers.
Fares from PLS to popular areas
We are not publishing a taxi rate card here. We could not verify the current official fares against a Turks and Caicos government source, and given that the limits are inconsistently applied anyway, a list of dollar figures would look authoritative while being neither official nor reliable. The fare you agree at the kerb is the real one.
What is stable is the geography. From PLS, roughly nearest-first:

- Turtle Cove
- Grace Bay (most resorts) -- about 6 km
- Sapodilla Bay / Chalk Sound

Shared shuttle costs
Shared shuttles run between the airport and major hotel areas, primarily Grace Bay, and are charged per person rather than per vehicle -- which is what makes them the cheapest option for one or two travellers and the dearest for a family. Confirm the per-person fare with the operator when you book. The trade-off is time: the shuttle makes multiple hotel stops, so your 10-minute direct ride becomes a 20-30 minute tour of Grace Bay drop-offs. Fine if you are not in a rush.
Private transfer pricing
Pre-booked private transfers offer fixed pricing, a dedicated vehicle, and meet-and-greet service. These are the one figures on this page you can know before you land:

These prices are per vehicle, not per person, making them competitive for groups of three or more.
Rental car costs
Daily rates at PLS vary by vehicle, season and agency, so check current quotes directly with the rental companies rather than budgeting from a figure you read months earlier. Factor in fuel (gasoline is more expensive on the island than in the US) and any added insurance. A rental makes financial sense only if you plan to use the car beyond the airport-to-hotel trip.
Tipping
Tipping 15-20% is standard in Turks and Caicos, including for taxi drivers and transfer drivers. Some private transfer services include gratuity in the price -- check when booking.
The bottom line
Getting to Grace Bay from the airport is a short trip no matter which option you choose, and on a run this length none of the options is expensive in absolute terms. The structural difference is what to watch: shuttles charge per head, taxis and transfers charge per vehicle. So a solo traveller or couple usually does best in a shuttle or taxi, while families and groups of three or more often find a private transfer works out cheaper per person -- and it is the only one with a price you know before you arrive.
