Haneda receives international flights well past midnight, but public transport shuts down earlier than many visitors expect. Here is what actually works after the last train.

Night buses
A limited night bus service operates between roughly 01:00 and 02:00, running to Shibuya and Shinjuku via Oimachi. Schedules and fares change seasonally, so check the operator before relying on this - we are not printing a fare here because a night-bus price we cannot verify first-hand would only mislead you at 1 AM. The bus stop is on the ground floor of the arrivals level.
Taxis after midnight
Taxis run 24 hours at Haneda. The rank usually has cars waiting even at 2:00 or 3:00 AM.
The meter runs on Tokyo's regulated tariff for the 23 wards, Musashino and Mitaka: JPY 500 for the first 1 km, then JPY 100 per 232 m, plus JPY 100 per 1 minute 25 seconds below 10 km/h - and a 20% surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00. Expressway tolls are added on top. That tariff was set by the Kanto Transportation Bureau and took effect on 20 April 2026; it is revised every few years, so check the current one before you travel.
Some operators sell an approved flat fare from Haneda to certain wards, with its own night rate for the same 22:00-05:00 window. KM Taxi's, for example, is JPY 10,700 to Shinjuku Ward at night (JPY 9,000 in the daytime), JPY 10,000 to Shibuya Ward and JPY 9,000 to Chiyoda Ward. Not every ward is covered and flat fares differ by operator - ask at the rank. The advantage at 2 AM is that traffic and route stop mattering.
Private transfer at night
A pre-booked private transfer is often the smartest late-night choice. Most companies do not charge a late-night surcharge, so you pay the price you agreed at booking rather than the daytime meter plus 20%. Your driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals regardless of delays. No uncertainty, no meter ticking.
Waiting it out
Haneda Terminal 3 is comfortable enough to spend a few hours. There are 24-hour restaurants, rest lounges, and quiet seating areas. The terminal is safe, warm, and well-lit. If your flight lands at 01:00 and the first train leaves at 05:15, waiting four hours is a valid (and free) option. Some travelers use the shower facilities at the terminal's capsule hotel area for a quick refresh.
What we recommend
If you land between 23:00 and 01:00 and have a hotel booking, take a taxi or pre-booked transfer. If you land after 01:00 and are comfortable waiting, the terminal is a perfectly fine place to rest until the first train. The money you save is significant, especially for solo travelers.
