Subway fares follow the published city scale: KRW 1,550 with a transit card for the first 10 km, then KRW 100 for each additional 5 km (cash tickets cost KRW 100 more). Taxis have no fixed airport price — the meter runs on the Seoul tariff of KRW 4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then KRW 100 per 131 m, plus KRW 100 per 30 seconds whenever the cab is barely moving. A T-money card costs a few thousand won to buy (the exact price depends on the retailer and card design), then saves you KRW 100 per subway ride versus a cash ticket and is essential for buses. You will use it throughout your Seoul trip, so it pays for itself quickly.
Seoul does not use a single flat night rate. On a regular sedan the surcharge is 20% from 22:00-23:00, 40% from 23:00-02:00, and 20% from 02:00-04:00 — the priciest window starts at 23:00, not midnight. Deluxe taxis take a flat 20% from 22:00 to 04:00, and a further 20% applies beyond the city limits.
Expressway tolls may apply on certain routes and are added to the meter.
Deluxe taxis (black) run on a higher tariff — KRW 7,000 for the first 3 km, then KRW 200 per 151 m — which works out roughly 50% more than a regular taxi on an airport-length trip, in exchange for a larger vehicle and drivers who often speak English.
Is a pre-booked transfer worth it?
Honestly, for solo travelers or couples, the subway from Gimpo is so good that a transfer is hard to justify on convenience alone. The value of a pre-booked transfer at Gimpo comes when you are traveling with a family, have heavy luggage, arrive after the subway closes, or simply want door-to-door service in English with zero navigation required.

The subway is the clear winner. For KRW 1,550–1,850 you reach central Seoul in 25–40 minutes. Trains are clean, air-conditioned, and announcements are in English. The only downside is managing luggage during rush hours.
