Krabi Airport serves a spread-out region, so your cost depends heavily on where you are heading. Here is the honest version.
Where the real prices are
Fares are posted on the boards at the transport counters in the arrivals hall, and you buy before you board. That board is the only price worth trusting: we are not printing figures here, because neither the airport nor the operators publish them anywhere we could verify, and a stale number quoted with confidence is worse than no number at all. Check the board, and check it against a second counter — they are lined up next to each other.

Railay pricing explained
Railay is road-inaccessible. The cost is always two segments: road transport to a pier (Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao), plus a longtail boat. The boat charges per person if you share with others, or considerably more to charter one privately. Both segments are agreed on the spot — the boat fare at the pier — so budget for a combination rather than a single number.
What affects the price
- Distance: the further your hotel, the more it costs. Krabi Town is close and cheap. Koh Lanta involves a long drive plus a ferry.
- Vehicle type: a sedan costs less than an SUV or minivan. If you are two people with normal luggage, a sedan is fine.
- Time of day: shared shuttles may not run late at night, which pushes you to a taxi or a pre-booked car.
- Number of travelers: shuttles charge per person, private vehicles per car. Somewhere around three or four people to the same hotel, the private car stops looking expensive. Do that sum at the counter with the posted prices in front of you.
Tips on payment
Thai Baht is the only useful currency. Airport counters accept cash THB. Pre-booked transfers are often paid online. Metered taxis take cash only. ATMs at the airport work with international cards and charge a per-withdrawal fee for foreign cards on top of your own bank's charges — the machine displays the amount before you confirm, so read that screen.
Tipping
Tipping is not mandatory in Thailand but is appreciated for good service. Rounding up the fare, or a little extra for a driver who handled your bags or drove you a long way, is the normal gesture. We are not putting a number on it.
Best value by scenario
- Solo traveler to Ao Nang: shared shuttle from the arrivals counter
- Couple to Ao Nang: shuttle if you are counting every baht, private transfer if you would rather not lose an hour to hotel stops
- Family of 4 to Ao Nang: private transfer — usually similar per person to four shuttle tickets, and far more comfortable
- Budget traveler to Krabi Town: songthaew, the cheapest option out of the airport
