Taxi vs Transfer vs Shuttle at Krabi Airport

Krabi Airport gives you more transport choices than many Thai airports. Here is how they actually compare in practice.

Private transfer

A driver waits at arrivals with your name. You walk out, get in, and go directly to your hotel. No waiting, no sharing, no stops. The vehicle is confirmed and the price is fixed at booking — typically 900-1,200 THB to Ao Nang.

Best for: families, groups, anyone who values going straight to their hotel, late arrivals.

Metered taxi

Available outside the arrivals area. Taxis use meters plus a 100 THB airport surcharge. The final fare to Ao Nang usually lands around 700-900 THB total. Vehicles are standard Thai taxis — air-conditioned sedans in reasonable condition.

The advantage over a transfer is that you do not need to book ahead. The disadvantage is slight unpredictability — you do not choose your vehicle, and if the driver takes a longer route (uncommon but possible), the meter reflects it.

Best for: travelers who prefer not to book ahead and want to go immediately.

Shared shuttle minivan

The budget option. Buy a ticket at the counter in arrivals (200-300 THB to Ao Nang), wait for the van to fill or reach its departure time, then share the ride with 6-10 other travelers. The van makes multiple hotel stops along the route.

The cost savings are real — especially for solo travelers. The trade-off is time. What takes 35-40 minutes in a private car can take 60-90 minutes in a shuttle making 5-6 stops. If your hotel happens to be the last drop-off, you are riding the longest.

Best for: solo travelers and couples on a budget with patience.

Side-by-side comparison

| Factor | Private transfer | Metered taxi | Shared shuttle | |--------|-----------------|--------------|----------------| | Price to Ao Nang | 900-1,200 THB | 700-900 THB | 200-300 THB/person | | Wait time | None | Minimal | 10-30 min for van to fill | | Journey time | 35-40 min | 35-40 min | 60-90 min | | Door-to-door | Yes | Yes | Yes (with stops) | | Vehicle quality | Good, chosen at booking | Standard taxi | Minivan, basic | | Late night | Available | Limited | May not run | | Child seat | Can request | No | No |

The Grab option

Grab sometimes works at Krabi Airport. When a driver is available, prices are competitive — often 500-700 THB to Ao Nang. The experience is similar to a taxi but booked through the app with upfront pricing. However, driver availability is inconsistent at KBV. It is worth trying, but have a backup.

The math for groups

The shuttle is cheapest per person for solo travelers. But for a group of 3-4 heading to the same place, a private transfer at 900-1,200 THB total is cheaper per person than the shuttle — and you get a private vehicle with no waiting or extra stops. The breakeven point is roughly 3 people.
