Arriving at Krabi Airport Late at Night

Krabi Airport receives its last flights between 10 PM and midnight, including international arrivals from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and late domestic flights from Bangkok. Here is what changes when you land after dark.

The airport at night

The terminal stays open for arriving flights. Transport counters in the arrivals hall remain staffed until the last passengers are served. The 7-Eleven and currency exchange may still be open for late flights, but do not count on full services. ATMs work 24/7.

The airport is quieter but functional. You will not feel unsafe or stranded inside the terminal.

Transport after 10 PM

Pre-booked transfers operate at all hours. Your driver monitors your flight and will be waiting regardless of the time. This is the most reliable late-night option and the one we recommend.

Metered taxis are available but in reduced numbers. You may wait 10-15 minutes for one to appear. Prices are the same as daytime — meters and surcharges do not change for late hours.

Shared shuttles may or may not run for the last flights. If they do, filling the van takes longer since there are fewer passengers. You could be waiting 30+ minutes. Some shuttle operators stop service before the last flight lands.

Grab is unlikely to have drivers available near the airport late at night.

The Railay problem

This is the critical issue for late-night arrivals. Longtail boats to Railay Beach do not operate after dark. The rocky coastline and lack of navigation lights make it unsafe. If you are heading to Railay and your flight lands after about 5 PM (giving time for transport to the pier), you will need to overnight somewhere else.

Your options:

  • Stay one night in Ao Nang and take a morning boat to Railay (boats start around 8 AM)
  • Stay in Krabi Town and combine the boat trip with your check-in the next day
  • Book an afternoon or early flight to Krabi instead
This is not a minor inconvenience — it requires an extra night of accommodation. If Railay is your destination, plan your flight timing around the boat schedule.

The drive at night

The road from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang and Krabi Town is well-paved and reasonably lit near towns. Traffic is lighter at night, so the drive is quicker — 25-30 minutes to Ao Nang versus 35-45 during the day. The route passes through some dark stretches between the airport and Ao Nang, but it is a well-traveled road.

Practical checklist

  • Book a transfer for late arrivals — shared shuttles are unreliable at night
  • If heading to Railay, accept you will need a night in Ao Nang or Krabi Town
  • Confirm your hotel accepts late check-in — smaller guesthouses may close their reception
  • Withdraw Baht from the ATM at the airport if needed — it works 24/7
  • Eat before or during your flight — food options at the airport are limited late at night
  • The convenience stores in Ao Nang stay open late if you need supplies after arriving
