Plan for a long arrival day. Our route estimates put Santa Cruz de La Palma at about 18 minutes, Los Llanos de Aridane at about 47 minutes, and Garafia at about 88 minutes by road.

Child seat rules in Spain

The Spanish traffic authority, DGT, states that child restraint systems are required for minors 135 cm or shorter. For taxis, it states that they are required on motorways and dual carriageways but not in urban traffic, and that children must always travel in the rear seats. Ask your provider what is arranged, and do not assume that a taxi at the stop has a seat.

Getting to the accommodation with children

Bus: Aena lists line 500, Santa Cruz de La Palma, Los Cancajos and the airport, with hours of 7:15 to 22:45 on working days Monday to Saturday and 7:45 to 22:45 on Sundays and holidays. Call 922 411 924 or 922 414 441 to ask about luggage and children, which the Aena page does not list.

Taxi: take it from the marked stop. The fare is metered under the tariffs Aena publishes, so the total depends on the route.

Pre-booked transfer: request a child seat when booking and give your child's age and weight. A larger vehicle can be requested for strollers and bags. Check your booking confirmation for the meeting point.

Practical tips

Keep water, snacks and children's essentials in your hand luggage. Keep your accommodation address saved on your phone. Many villages are 40 to 90 minutes away by road, so feed and rest the children before the drive if you can.

The bottom line

With strollers, several bags and tired children, a door-to-door ride usually saves the most effort, especially to villages off line 500.
