What stops running
On the summer timetable (valid 29 April to 28 October 2026), the last Alilaguna Blue Line boat leaves the airport at 00:20 and the last Orange Line boat at 23:05. The Blue Line's first departure from the airport is 05:20 and the Orange Line's is 08:35. After the last boat, no public boat service leaves the airport until the morning.
The ATVO bus keeps running later than the boats: its service to Venice Piazzale Roma leaves the airport until 01:10 (the last two departures are 00:20 and 01:10), and the ATVO service to Mestre railway station also has its last airport departure at 01:10. A single to Piazzale Roma is €12.00 and the ride takes about 20 minutes. Schedules change with the season (the Alilaguna winter timetable starts after 28 October), so confirm the current timetable before you travel.
What keeps running
Private water taxis: these are priced per boat and hours and supplements vary by operator, so confirm availability at your arrival time, the total fare, and any night, passenger or luggage supplement when you book. Pre-booking is recommended for late-night arrivals, because there is no public boat after the last Alilaguna departure.
Road transport after the last bus: buses end at Piazzale Roma, so if your hotel is on the Venice island you will still need a water taxi (or to continue on foot) from there. After the last bus, a pre-booked transfer or a taxi takes you to Mestre or the mainland; confirm the fare before you set off. If your hotel is on the island and it is past 01:10, a private water taxi directly from the airport is the way to reach it by boat.
Common late-night scenarios
Landing at 11 PM: After immigration and baggage you may still catch a Blue Line boat (the last leaves at 00:20); the Orange Line's last boat leaves at 23:05. The ATVO bus is also running. Have a private water taxi booked as a backup plan.
Landing at 12:30 AM: The last Alilaguna boat has left. The ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma still has a 01:10 departure, or take a private water taxi from the airport — confirm the night rate when you book.
Landing at 2 AM with a Venice island hotel: The public boats and the bus have stopped. A private water taxi is the way to reach the island directly. Confirm the fare, including the night surcharge, before you board.
Landing at 2 AM with a Mestre hotel: The last ATVO bus to Mestre railway station left at 01:10. Arrange a taxi or pre-booked transfer and confirm the fare before you set off.
Landing at 5:30 AM: The first Alilaguna Blue Line boat left the airport at 05:20, so after immigration and baggage you will be catching the next Blue Line departure; check the line's timetable for it. The first ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma leaves at 06:00. The Orange Line does not start until 08:35. If you prefer a private water taxi, confirm any night supplement when you book.
The night premium reality
Late-night Venice arrivals cost more than daytime ones because the last public boats stop around midnight and private water taxis may carry a night supplement, so confirm it when you book. If your flight regularly arrives late, consider booking accommodation in Mestre or on the mainland for the first night and moving to a Venice island hotel the following day by boat or bus.
