Arriving at Preveza Airport Late at Night

Last updated: April 2026

Late-night arrivals at Preveza Aktion Airport are routine during the Greek island charter season. The airport processes flights through late evening and into the night. What does not scale with the flight schedule is the number of taxis.

What is open

The terminal handles all scheduled arrivals. Immigration and baggage claim operate until the last flight is processed. Car rental desks with late-night contracts remain open.

What is absent: public buses. There is no bus service from the airport at any hour. All late-night transport from PVK relies on taxis or pre-arranged vehicles.

Taxi supply at night

Preveza Airport has a small taxi contingent. Late-night charter arrivals can easily outnumber available cars at the rank. For Preveza city (5 km), this resolves quickly as cars cycle back. For Lefkada destinations — 25-65 km away — the situation is less reliable.

A driver willing to take the roughly 68 EUR meter run to Nidri after a busy charter landing needs to be available, willing, and present. Pre-booking removes all three variables.

Driving at night toward Lefkada

The road from Preveza to Lefkada Town via the causeway is well-maintained and lit in parts. The route to Nidri continues south on the east coast road — this is manageable at night.

The mountain road to the west coast of Lefkada (Porto Katsiki, Agios Nikitas) is narrow and unlit in sections. If your accommodation is on the west coast, arriving after dark via these roads is challenging unless you know them. Consider whether a late-night arrival in this location requires a particularly experienced local driver, or whether it is worth requesting an early-morning arrival if your tour operator offers flexibility.

Night surcharges — the good news

This is widely misreported, so it is worth being precise. Greek taxis do not add a percentage surcharge at night. Instead, between 00:00 and 05:00 they switch to Tariff 2 — 1.25 EUR per km instead of the 0.90 EUR Tariff 1 rate. But Tariff 2 also applies, at any hour, to any journey outside a town's boundaries, and Preveza Aktion Airport is outside them.

Which means every fare from this airport is already on Tariff 2 in broad daylight. Landing at 02:00 does not put your Nidri or Lefkada Town fare onto a higher rate than landing at 14:00 would. (Source: Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport decision 191290/2022, Government Gazette B' 3136.)

Pre-booked transfers are priced per booking rather than by the tariff, so check the total at booking — some operators do charge a night fee.

Practical tips

Have euros in cash before leaving the terminal (ATM is inside). Have your accommodation's full address and a phone number written on paper — mobile signal in parts of Lefkada is patchy. Message your accommodation before travel to confirm late check-in arrangements, particularly for smaller villas and studios that may not have overnight staff.
