Porto airport is about 11 km from the city center, and transport costs are reasonable by Western European standards. Portugal remains one of the more affordable countries in the eurozone.
The metro fare, exactly
Metro do Porto publishes its tariff, so this is the one number you can rely on. The airport-to-city-centre journey is a Z4 ticket: EUR 2.30, in force since 1 January 2026. Add EUR 0.60 once for the reusable Andante Azul card. First journey EUR 2.90, every subsequent journey EUR 2.30.

Understanding taxi pricing
Porto taxis run on a meter. The tariff is set nationally rather than by the city, and the rate card must be displayed inside the cab - read it before you set off. Portugal's taxi tariff is under revision during 2026, including the supplements, so any fixed figure you read in a guide can be out of date; ask the driver for an estimate before you travel, or book a fixed price in advance.
There is no flat airport rate in Porto - the meter runs on time and distance, so heavy traffic increases the fare. If a driver quotes a fixed price, they are either being helpful or rounding up. You can ask for the meter.
The metro value proposition
At EUR 2.30 per person the metro is by far the cheapest option, and it is the only one whose price you know before you land. A family of four travels for EUR 9.20 each way plus the one-off card cost, which narrows the gap to a car considerably once you factor in the convenience difference.
The Andante card is reusable and works on all Porto public transport (metro, buses, some trains). If you plan to use public transport during your stay, buying the card at the airport is a good start.
Uber and Bolt
Ride-hailing in Porto is usually cheaper than a metered taxi, but app pricing moves with demand and no honest fixed range can be published - the app quotes you before you confirm, which is the point. The trade-off is a 5-10 minute wait and potentially a smaller vehicle.
What to budget
For central Porto: the metro is EUR 2.30 and a transfer is EUR 18-30, with taxis and ride-hailing somewhere in between depending on the meter and the app. The metro is perfectly good for able-bodied travelers with manageable luggage. A car is worth it with heavy bags or children.
For destinations beyond Porto: EUR 50-150 depending on distance. Pre-booked transfers offer the best value for longer journeys, with fixed prices and door-to-door service that metered taxis cannot match.
