Mykonos is a small island. Every destination is within 15 km of the airport, and drives take 10-25 minutes. Transport costs are modest. The real cost is the time you spend waiting for a taxi during peak season.
What a taxi is allowed to charge
Greek taxi fares are not set island by island. A single national tariff applies (ministerial decision 191290/2022, Government Gazette B' 3136 of 21 June 2022, in force since 23 June 2022, VAT included): 1.80 EUR to start, 0.90 EUR per km on Tariff 1, 1.25 EUR per km on Tariff 2 (00:00-05:00, and outside city limits), a 4.00 EUR minimum fare, a 4.00 EUR airport surcharge, and 0.39 EUR for each bag over 10 kg. Waiting time is charged at 15.00 EUR per hour.
The airport run is short, so the metered total is modest, but which tariff band applies on an island route is a common source of disagreement. Ask for the meter to be switched on and agree the basis before you set off. The tariff is revised by ministerial decision, so check the current one before you travel.
That tariff is the whole basis of a Mykonos taxi fare. There is no fixed airport price, and the airport does not publish one. If a driver quotes a flat figure instead of running the meter, that is a negotiation, not a tariff.

Why the cost is not the real issue
Every trip on this island is short. On one of the world's most expensive islands, the airport transfer is not where your holiday budget goes.
The real cost of taking a taxi from Mykonos Airport is time. During July and August, the wait at the taxi stand can be 20-60 minutes. If you value your time at all, the premium for a pre-booked transfer is insignificant.
The bus
A KTEL bus runs between the airport and Mykonos Town (Fabrika station). It is the cheapest option by far, though neither the airport nor the operator publishes the fare in a form we could verify — check the price posted at the stop and carry coins, as card acceptance is inconsistent. The bus works if:
- You are heading to Mykonos Town specifically
- You travel light (there is no luggage compartment)
- The schedule aligns with your arrival
- You can manage the walk from Fabrika station to your accommodation
The bus does not serve beach areas directly. From Fabrika, you would need another bus or taxi to reach beaches, which adds cost and complication.
Transfer pricing: what you are paying for
A transfer is quoted per vehicle, before you travel. That premium over a metered taxi buys:
- Guaranteed availability (no waiting)
- A driver at the airport when you land
- A specific vehicle (sedan or minivan)
- Child seat if requested
- A fixed price regardless of time or demand
During peak season, this is the best-value spending decision you will make on Mykonos.
Off-season
From October to May, the taxi shortage disappears. Cabs are readily available at the airport and there is no compelling reason to pre-book unless you want the certainty.
Payment
Greece uses the euro. Most Mykonos taxis accept cards, but having some cash is wise as a backup. Transfer payments are usually handled at booking.
Tipping
Tipping is not expected in Greek taxis. Rounding up by a euro or two is common courtesy. For transfer drivers, a small tip is a welcome gesture but not required.
The bottom line on cost
Mykonos airport transport is affordable and the distances are tiny. The bus is the bargain for town-bound travelers. Taxis are metered on a published national tariff, so you can check the charge yourself. Transfers carry a premium that buys significant convenience during peak season.
