Beauvais-Tille Airport (BVA) — Getting to Paris and Dealing with the Distance

Beauvais-Tille Airport is about 85 km north of central Paris. That is not a typo — this is genuinely far from the city. Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air use BVA and call it "Paris Beauvais," but you should know what you are getting into.

The most common option is the official Aérobus shuttle to Porte Maillot in western Paris, which costs 17.90 EUR booked online (18 EUR at the counter) and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. A second Aérobus line runs to Paris La Villette at the same online fare. A private transfer runs 100–160 EUR and takes 60–90 minutes depending on traffic; a taxi is metered and, over 85 km with tolls, dearer still. There is no direct train from the airport.

BVA is a small, no-frills airport. It has one terminal building that handles both departures and arrivals. After you land, you walk across the tarmac (no jet bridges), collect your bags, and exit into a compact arrivals hall.

The building has basic amenities — a few cafes, a small duty-free area, and ATMs. Do not expect the facilities of CDG or Orly. This is a low-cost airport designed for low-cost airlines.

Once outside, you will see the shuttle bus departure area clearly marked. The bus is timed to flights, so it should be waiting or arriving shortly after you clear baggage claim.

The official Aérobus shuttle is run by the airport and is the default choice for most travelers. It departs from outside the terminal, is scheduled to leave about 20 minutes after your flight lands, and drops you at Porte Maillot (22–24 Boulevard Pershing, 75017) where you can connect to Metro line 1 or the RER. The airport runs up to 100 round trips a day, roughly every 15–30 minutes. Online it is 17.90 EUR one way and 29.90 EUR return; at the counter it is 18 EUR one way and 35 EUR return, so booking ahead saves real money on a return. Children aged 4–11 pay 9.90 EUR online (there is no child discount at the counter) and under-4s go free. A second line runs to Paris La Villette in about 1 h 30 — online booking only.

Taxis are available outside the terminal but the long distance makes them expensive. Taxis are metered on the tariff set by the Oise prefecture, not by a flat airport fare. Two things make the Paris run expensive: the higher per-km rate applies when the taxi has to drive home empty, which it does on a one-way trip to Paris, and A16 motorway tolls are added on top. Over 85 km that adds up fast, so ask the driver for an estimate before you set off and check the tariff card displayed in the car. The prefecture publishes the current rates at oise.gouv.fr.

Train from Beauvais station — take Corolis line 6 from the airport to Beauvais SNCF station (every 30 minutes; the 1 EUR all-day BUT ticket covers it) and then a TER train to Paris Gare du Nord. A single Métro-Train-RER ticket is now one flat fare anywhere in Île-de-France — the zones were abolished for single tickets — so the onward leg from Porte Maillot costs the same wherever you are going. Check the current ticket price at iledefrance-mobilites.fr.

The shuttle bus is so much cheaper that most budget travelers use it without question. The gap between a 17.90 EUR shuttle seat and a metered 85 km taxi is enormous. The trade-off is comfort and time — the bus is not luxurious, and an hour and a quarter in a coach after a flight is tiring.

This is where BVA gets tricky. If your flight arrives late (after 10 PM), the shuttle bus may still run — it is timed to flights — but confirm this for your specific arrival. The last scheduled shuttle often departs around midnight or later for delayed flights.

If you miss the shuttle, your options are a metered taxi — expensive over 85 km, and on the prefecture's higher night rate — or a pre-booked private transfer. There are no trains at that hour, and the town of Beauvais largely shuts down. Having a backup plan for late arrivals is important at this airport.

The shuttle bus allows standard luggage but can feel cramped during full flights. If you are traveling with a stroller, car seats, and multiple bags, managing everything on a bus for 75 minutes and then navigating the Metro is exhausting.

For families, a private transfer from BVA directly to your Paris hotel is a significant quality-of-life upgrade. The cost is high (100–160 EUR), but split among a family of four it is 25–40 EUR per person. Two adults and two children aged 4–11 pay 55.60 EUR one way on the shuttle at online fares, before Metro tickets — so the transfer premium is smaller than it first looks.

Shuttle bus — the departure point is directly outside the arrivals exit, clearly signposted. Look for the blue "Paris Beauvais" shuttle signs.

Taxis — a small taxi rank is outside the terminal. Availability can be limited, especially for late flights. Consider calling ahead.

Private transfer drivers — they typically wait inside the arrivals hall with a name sign, or just outside the exit doors. The airport is small enough that finding each other is straightforward.

Train connection — to reach Beauvais SNCF station, take Corolis line 6 from outside the terminal (every 30 minutes, 1 EUR all-day ticket) or a short taxi ride.

Choose the shuttle bus if you are a solo traveler or couple, traveling light, on a budget, and arriving during normal hours. It is the standard BVA experience.

Choose the train route if you enjoy a more scenic journey, are flexible with time, and want to avoid the motorway bus ride.

Choose a taxi if you need to leave immediately, money is not the primary concern, and you want a direct ride.

Choose a private transfer if you are a family, have lots of luggage, arriving late at night, heading somewhere other than Porte Maillot, or simply want the comfort of a door-to-door service after dealing with a budget airline experience. The price is steep, but the convenience is real.
