Flight schedule reality
Most flights at ZAD arrive between 8 AM and 10 PM during summer. In the off-season, the schedule is even more compressed. A genuinely late arrival (after 10 PM) is usually the result of a delay rather than a scheduled flight.
Transport after 10 PM
Taxis may still be waiting if your flight was expected. However, Zadar's taxi fleet is small, and late at night there is no guarantee of availability at the airport. If your flight is delayed and arriving late, the drivers who were waiting for the original schedule may have left.
The airport bus only runs in coordination with scheduled flights. A significantly delayed flight may not have bus service.
Pre-booked transfers are the only reliable option for late arrivals at this small airport. Your driver is assigned to your specific flight and will wait regardless of delays. For any arrival after 9 PM at ZAD, booking in advance is not just convenient — it is essential.
The drive at night
Zadar's roads are quiet at night. The 12 km to the center takes about 12-15 minutes. The road is well-maintained and lit near the city. Croatia's roads are generally safe.
If you are heading to the Old Town, note that access is limited at night — your driver will need to drop you near one of the entry points. Have your accommodation address and directions clear.
If you cannot find transport
ZAD does not have an airport hotel. If you are truly stuck with no transport, the terminal may remain open for a limited time but it is not designed for overnight stays. Your best option is to call a Zadar taxi company directly — numbers are posted in the terminal — or contact your accommodation, as many hosts in Croatia are willing to help arrange pickup even at short notice.
