Arriving at Toronto Pearson Airport late at night

Last updated: February 2026

Pearson handles flights around the clock, with a significant number of transatlantic and transpacific arrivals landing between 22:00 and 02:00. If your flight is one of them, here is what changes.

What stops running

The UP Express train runs until approximately 01:00. If your flight lands after midnight and you need time for immigration and baggage claim, you may miss the last train. Confirm the schedule before relying on it.

Public transit buses to Kipling station also stop running late at night.

What keeps running

Taxis are available 24/7 from the ranks at both terminals. The flat rate to downtown Toronto (approximately $60-65 CAD) applies at all hours. There is no nighttime surcharge on the flat rate.

Uber and Lyft operate around the clock. Late-night pricing is generally lower than rush hour, since traffic is minimal. Expect $35-55 CAD to downtown. Wait times may be slightly longer after midnight but rarely exceed 10-15 minutes.

Pre-booked transfers work at any hour. Your driver tracks your flight and waits regardless of delays. The price is fixed at booking.

The upside of late-night arrivals

Toronto traffic is legendary for its congestion. At 2 AM, the highway is empty. The drive from Pearson to downtown drops to about 25 minutes, roughly the same as the UP Express. This makes a taxi or rideshare more appealing at night than during the day, when the same drive can take over an hour.

Immigration at night

Late-night immigration can go either way. Sometimes it is faster because the airport is quieter. Sometimes it is slower because staffing is reduced and a large flight from London or Hong Kong creates a queue. Budget 20-40 minutes from landing to the arrivals hall.

Waiting until morning

Pearson is large enough to wait in overnight. Some seating areas are available past security, and the terminals have 24-hour facilities. However, it is not designed as an overnight hotel. If you are considering this to save money, a late-night Uber at $40 CAD may be better for your sleep and sanity.

Practical tips

  • Check the UP Express schedule against your expected arrival time (including immigration buffer)
  • Uber and Lyft are often cheapest between midnight and 5 AM due to low demand
  • The taxi flat rate does not change at night, making it a predictable option
  • Have your accommodation address accessible on your phone
  • Canada is cashless-friendly, so a credit card is sufficient for all transport options
Late-night arrivals at Pearson are actually more pleasant than rush-hour arrivals in one key way: no traffic. The city that takes an hour to reach at 5 PM takes 25 minutes at 1 AM. If you have a ride arranged, the late-night experience is smooth.
