Vilnius Airport: taxi, Bolt, or private transfer?

Last updated: March 2026

Let's be direct: for most Vilnius Airport trips, Bolt is all you need. But here's the full picture.

Why Bolt wins in Vilnius

Bolt was founded in Estonia and is the dominant ride-hailing app in the Baltics. In Vilnius, it works exceptionally well:

  • Cheap: €5-8 to the Old Town
  • Fast: Cars arrive in 2-5 minutes
  • Available: 24/7 with good driver supply
  • Cashless: Card payment automatic
  • Reliable: Driver ratings, GPS tracking, upfront pricing
There's really no taxi vs transfer debate in Vilnius the way there is at bigger, more chaotic airports. The distance is short, the app works, and the price is negligible.

When you might want a taxi instead

  • No smartphone or no Bolt account: Walk outside and take a taxi from the rank (€8-12 to center)
  • Arriving with no mobile data: Taxis don't require an app
  • Preference for hailing: Some people just prefer the traditional taxi experience
Watch out: Some Vilnius taxi drivers at the airport may try to quote fixed prices instead of using the meter. Always insist on the meter. A metered trip to the Old Town should be €8-12, not €15-20.

When a pre-booked transfer makes sense

Honestly? Rarely for the city center trip. At €15-25 for a sedan, you're paying 2-3x what Bolt charges for essentially the same ride.

But transfers do make sense for:

  • Families needing child seats — neither Bolt nor taxis have them
  • Large groups (6+) — a minivan transfer is simpler than coordinating multiple Bolts
  • Destinations outside Vilnius — Trakai (€35-50), Kaunas (€80-110), Druskininkai (€100-140)
  • Corporate/VIP arrivals — if you need a specific car class and guaranteed service

Comparison table

| Factor | Bolt | Taxi | Transfer | |---|---|---|---| | Price to Old Town | €5-8 | €8-12 | €15-25 | | Wait time | 2-5 min | 0-5 min | 0 min | | Booking needed | App | No | Yes | | Child seat | No | No | On request | | Payment | Card (app) | Card or cash | Card | | English communication | Via app | Variable | Usually good | | Late night | Available | Limited | Guaranteed |

What about the train?

If you're comparing costs: the train is €0.72. The Old Town is a 10-15 minute walk from the railway station. If you're able-bodied, have light luggage, and your hotel is within walking distance, the train is the obvious winner. Forget taxis, Bolt, and transfers — save your money for Lithuanian craft beer.

Our honest recommendation

1. Download Bolt before you fly (it also works across the Baltics and most of Europe) 2. When you land, request a Bolt from the pickup area 3. You'll be at your hotel in 15 minutes for €5-8 4. Spend the €15+ you saved (vs a transfer) on dinner at a great Lithuanian restaurant
