Late Night Arrivals at Varna Airport — Your Options

Varna Airport handles a lot of charter traffic during the summer season, and delays are common. If your flight lands after 22:00, here is what you are working with.

What Is Open at Night

The terminal stays operational as long as flights are arriving. The ATMs work around the clock. The currency exchange desk usually closes by 22:00 or shortly after the last scheduled arrival. The small shop and cafe close early too. Free WiFi remains available.

The key thing to know: the terminal is small, and once the last batch of passengers clears out, it empties quickly. Staff wind down, and you will want to have your onward transport sorted before that happens.

Bus — Not an Option After 23:00

Bus 409 to Varna city center runs its last service around 23:00. If your flight is even slightly delayed past that time, the bus is off the table. There is no night bus service from Varna Airport.

Taxis After Dark

During peak summer (June through September), there are usually taxis at the rank even after midnight. Drivers know the charter flights run late and some hang around for the business. However, availability is unpredictable — you might find five taxis or none.

In the off-season (October to May), the picture changes completely. Varna Airport is much quieter, and taxi drivers do not wait around for the occasional late arrival. Landing at 01:00 in November and hoping for a taxi at the rank is a gamble you will likely lose.

Late-night taxi fares are typically 20-30% higher than daytime rates. A ride to central Varna that costs 20 BGN during the day might run 25-30 BGN at night. For longer routes to the resorts, the premium adds up.

Pre-Booked Transfers at Night

This is the straightforward solution. A pre-booked transfer operates regardless of the hour. Your driver monitors your flight and knows if it is delayed. When you walk out of arrivals at 02:30, they are there with a name board.

Most transfer services apply a night surcharge of 10-20% for pickups between 22:00 and 06:00. Even with the surcharge, the total cost is usually comparable to what a taxi would charge at that hour — and you avoid the uncertainty of whether a taxi will be available at all.

What to Do If You Are Stuck

If you land late without a booking and find no taxis, your options are limited. You can try calling a local taxi company (OK Supertrans at +359 52 500 505 is the largest in Varna), but response times at night vary. The airport information desk may be able to help if it is still staffed.

The honest advice: if you know your flight arrives after 21:00, book a transfer in advance. The cost difference is small, and the peace of mind is significant — especially if you are traveling with family or heading somewhere beyond central Varna.
