SLL - Salalah

How Much Does It Cost to Get from Salalah Airport to the City?

Salalah Airport (SLL) is about 6 km from the city center, making the ride into town one of the shorter airport transfers you will encounter. The journey takes 10 to 15 minutes in normal traffic, and pricing is straightforward once you know what to expect.

Taxi fares from SLL

A standard taxi from the airport to central Salalah costs between 5 and 8 OMR (roughly 13 to 21 USD). Meters are not always used, so you should agree on the fare before getting into the vehicle. Most drivers will quote a fair price, but it helps to know the going rate.

If your hotel is along the coast — places like the Hilton Salalah Resort, Rotana, or Al Baleed Resort — expect to pay 8 to 15 OMR depending on exactly how far west or east you are heading. Trips to Mirbat or other towns in Dhofar will cost significantly more, typically 20 to 35 OMR.

Pre-booked private transfer pricing

A private transfer booked in advance for a standard sedan to central Salalah runs about 8 to 12 OMR. For a minivan or SUV suitable for families or groups, expect 12 to 18 OMR. The advantage is a fixed price with no negotiation required — the driver meets you inside the terminal and the fare is settled before you land.

Seasonal pricing differences

During Khareef season (June through September), Salalah becomes a popular destination for visitors from the Gulf seeking cooler weather and green landscapes. Demand for taxis and transfers increases noticeably during this period. While prices do not double, you may find taxi drivers quoting slightly higher fares, and rental cars become harder to find at short notice. Booking ahead during Khareef is genuinely worthwhile.

Car rental as an alternative

Rental cars at SLL start around 15 to 25 OMR per day for a basic sedan. If you are staying more than a couple of days and plan to explore — which you should, Dhofar is remarkable — this can work out cheaper than multiple taxi trips. Fuel in Oman is inexpensive by international standards.

Tips for keeping costs reasonable

The Omani rial is a strong currency (1 OMR is roughly 2.60 USD), so what looks like a small number can add up. For the city center trip, a taxi or pre-booked transfer is the sensible choice. Save the rental car decision for whether you plan to explore beyond Salalah itself. And if you are arriving during Khareef, do not leave transport to chance — book something before you fly.
