SLL - Salalah

Arriving at Salalah Airport with Family and Kids

Salalah Airport is one of the easier airports to navigate with children. The terminal is compact, distances are short, and the ride into town is quick. Here is what families should know.

The terminal experience

SLL has a single arrivals hall. After immigration and baggage claim, you walk straight out into the arrivals lobby. The entire process from plane to exit is short — typically 20 to 40 minutes depending on immigration queues. The terminal is air-conditioned, which matters when you are arriving in the Omani heat (unless it is Khareef season, when Salalah is surprisingly cool and green).

There are restrooms in the arrivals area. Amenities are limited once you are past security, so if your children need snacks or drinks, bring something from the aircraft or plan to stop shortly after leaving the airport.

Car seats and child safety

Standard taxis at Salalah Airport do not carry child car seats. If your children require car seats, you have two realistic options: bring your own travel car seat, or book a private transfer and request a child seat in advance. Most transfer providers can accommodate this request if given notice.

Oman does have child seat laws, though enforcement varies. Regardless of local enforcement, using a proper seat for young children on any car journey is the sensible approach.

Vehicle size and luggage

Families tend to travel with more bags. Standard taxis are sedans, and fitting a family of four plus luggage — strollers, car seats, suitcases — can be a squeeze. A pre-booked minivan or SUV is a better fit. You can specify your luggage requirements when booking so the driver arrives with an appropriate vehicle.

The walk from baggage claim to the vehicle pickup area is short and covered, so you will not be struggling with bags and children in the sun.

Best approach for families

Book a private transfer with a larger vehicle. Request a child seat if needed. The small price premium over a taxi buys a lot of comfort when you have tired children, multiple bags, and the desire to just get to your hotel without any complications. The ride to central Salalah is only 10 to 15 minutes, so even restless kids will manage fine.

If you are heading to a coastal resort rather than the city center, the journey is a bit longer (20 to 40 minutes depending on location), so comfortable seating and air conditioning matter even more.
