SJD - San Jose del Cabo

Late Night Airport Transfers from SJD

Los Cabos airport receives flights until roughly midnight, with a few arrivals occasionally pushing past that. If your flight lands late, here is what to expect.

What Is Different at Night

The good news: immigration is usually faster for late arrivals. The rush of afternoon flights from US cities has cleared, and the lines are shorter. The timeshare salespeople thin out in the evening too, so the walk through the terminal corridor is less intense.

The challenge: fewer transport options are actively operating. Shared shuttle services reduce their schedules in the evening, and the last vans often depart by 9-10 PM. After that, you are looking at airport taxis or pre-booked private transfers.

Pre-Booked Transfers at Night

This is the most reliable option for late arrivals. Your driver monitors your flight in real time and adjusts if your plane is delayed. When you walk out of the terminal at 11 PM, someone is holding a sign with your name on it. For families or anyone who is simply exhausted after a full day of travel, this removes all uncertainty.

Most transfer companies do not charge a late-night surcharge for pickups before midnight. Arrivals after midnight may incur a small fee ($10-15 USD) — check the terms when booking.

Airport Taxis at Night

The official taxi booth operates as long as flights are arriving. You can still purchase a zone-based ticket and get a licensed taxi. Availability is good — there are usually more taxis than passengers during late hours.

Pricing is the same as during the day. The zone rates are fixed and do not change based on time.

The Drive at Night

The highway between SJD airport and both San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is a divided four-lane road in good condition. However, lighting is limited in some stretches, and occasional pedestrians or cyclists without reflective gear can appear on the roadside. This is a genuine safety consideration and one of the practical reasons to use a professional driver rather than renting a car for a late-night arrival.

The drive itself is pleasant at night — no traffic, cool desert air, and if you are heading to Cabo San Lucas, you will be at your hotel in about 40 minutes.

If Your Flight Arrives After Midnight

Very few commercial flights land at SJD after midnight, but delays happen. If you booked a private transfer, your driver will wait — that is what you paid for. If you did not book anything, the taxi booth should still have drivers available, though the selection thins out.

Do not accept rides from unofficial drivers inside the terminal. Even at 1 AM, the official taxi system is operating. It may take a few extra minutes, but it is the safe option.

One More Thing

If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, your room's minibar and restaurant will likely be closed by the time you arrive. Consider picking up water and a snack at the airport convenience store before heading to your car. It is a small thing, but it matters when you are hungry at midnight in a resort where everything is shut.
