Gustaf III Airport (SBH) is one of the shortest and most dramatic runways in the Caribbean, perched on a hillside above St. Jean Beach. The airport is tiny — there is no jet bridge, no long terminal walk, and no immigration queue to speak of for most arrivals. The island is only 25 square kilometers, so no destination is more than about 15 minutes by car. A pre-arranged transfer or taxi is the standard way to reach your hotel. There is no public bus service from the airport.

Most passengers arrive on small propeller aircraft from Sint Maarten (SXM), Guadeloupe, or San Juan. You walk down steps onto the tarmac and into a small terminal building. Baggage arrives quickly — often within minutes — at a modest carousel or hand-delivered to a counter area.

The terminal is compact and open-air in feel. There is no lengthy customs process for flights from other French or EU territories. For arrivals from non-EU origins, expect a brief passport check. Once you have your bags, you step outside into a small parking area. The entire process from touchdown to curb can take under 10 minutes on a good day.

Wi-Fi is limited inside the terminal. Have your transfer confirmation or hotel address saved on your phone before landing.

Taxi fares from Gustaf III Airport are regulated. A ride to Gustavia (the capital) costs roughly 15 to 20 EUR. To St. Jean Beach, it is about 10 EUR. More remote areas like Colombier, Flamands, or Grand Cul-de-Sac range from 20 to 30 EUR.

Pre-booked private transfers typically cost between 25 and 60 EUR depending on vehicle type and destination. For a luxury SUV or a vehicle with extra luggage capacity, expect the higher end.

St. Barths is an expensive island overall, but transfer distances are so short that transport costs remain reasonable compared to other Caribbean destinations. There is no surge pricing — fares are the same day or night, though availability outside standard hours can be limited.
