Getting from Gatwick Airport to London with Kids and Family

Last updated: March 2026

Gatwick is a well-organized airport with solid family facilities — the challenge is choosing the right onward transport when you have children, strollers, and a mountain of luggage.

Train with kids: doable but tiring

The Gatwick Express is fast and direct, and children under 5 travel free. But the experience with a family looks like this: collect bags, find the station, manage a stroller and suitcases onto the train, then navigate Victoria Station — one of London's busiest — and transfer to the Tube or find a taxi.

If your children are older and your luggage is manageable, the train works. For families with toddlers and heavy bags, it is an exercise in stress management.

Transfer with kids: door-to-door calm

A pre-booked transfer means your driver meets you in arrivals, helps with bags, walks you to a vehicle where a child seat is already installed, and drives you directly to your hotel. No platforms, no escalators, no fighting through Victoria Station.

| Family size | Transfer price | Per person | Includes | |-------------|---------------|------------|----------| | 2 adults + 1 child | GBP 75–90 (EUR 88–105) | ~GBP 25–30 | Child seat, luggage, door-to-door | | 2 adults + 2 children | GBP 80–95 (EUR 94–111) | ~GBP 20–24 | Child seats, luggage, door-to-door | | 2 adults + 3 children | GBP 90–110 (EUR 105–129) | ~GBP 18–22 | Minivan, child seats, door-to-door |

Child seats and UK law

In the UK, children must use an appropriate car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall. Taxis and private hire vehicles are technically exempt, but most parents prefer a proper seat. Pre-booked transfer services provide child seats and boosters at no extra charge when requested during booking.
