How Much Does It Cost to Get from FDF Airport to Fort-de-France?

This page used to carry a detailed table of taxi prices to every resort on the island. We removed it, because we could not stand any of it up.

Here is what is actually true. The airport's own website says one thing about taxis: they are metered (`équipés de taximètres`) and they wait at door D in the arrivals area. It publishes no fares at all. Taxi tariffs in Martinique are capped by an arrêté préfectoral — a prefectural order that is reissued periodically — and the meter is calibrated to it. That order, not a website, is the authority.

So the honest answer to "what will it cost?" is: the meter will tell you, and the tariff card in the cab is the thing to read.

What to do instead of trusting a number

Ask before you get in. Martinique taxis are permitted to agree a fixed price for a journey as well as run the meter. Agreeing the fare at door D, before your bags go in the boot, is normal and sensible — especially for a long run to Sainte-Anne or Saint-Pierre.

Check the tariff card. It is displayed in the vehicle. It shows the pickup charge, the per-km rate and the applicable surcharges. If the meter and the card disagree, that is your cue.

Get a transfer quoted in writing. A pre-booked transfer is priced per vehicle at booking, so the figure is settled before you fly and does not move with the hour or the traffic. For a late arrival heading somewhere far south, that certainty is the product.

The night and Sunday question

French taxi tariffs conventionally distinguish a daytime rate from a night, Sunday and public-holiday rate, and Martinique is no exception — the meter switches to a higher tariff outside normal hours. We are not going to put a percentage on it, because the exact uplift is set by the current arrêté and we could not verify the figure that was previously printed here. Assume an evening or Sunday arrival costs meaningfully more by taxi than the same trip on a Tuesday afternoon, and price a transfer against it if that matters to you.

Distances, which do not rot

Rush hour around Fort-de-France (roughly 07:00–09:00 and 16:00–19:00) is heavier than a small island suggests, and on a metered fare that time is money.
