What affects the price
Traffic is the dominant factor for any road-based transport. During peak hours (8–11 AM, 5–9 PM), Uber/Ola fares can surge 50–100% above base rates. Pre-paid taxis have fixed fares regardless of traffic, which is their main advantage.
Vehicle type matters. A pre-paid taxi in a non-AC car costs about 20% less than an AC car. Private transfers in a sedan versus an SUV/Innova differ by INR 500–1,000.
Time of day affects Metro availability. The Airport Express runs only from 4:45 AM to 11:30 PM. Outside these hours, road transport is your only option, and the pre-paid taxi counter adds a 25% night surcharge.
Hidden costs and tips
The pre-paid taxi fare is genuinely all-inclusive — no tolls, no surcharges (except the night rate). However, some drivers may ask for extra money claiming tolls or parking fees. Your receipt covers everything; do not pay more.
Uber and Ola fares do not include tips. Tipping is not expected but INR 50–100 for good service is appreciated.
For the Metro, you need a token or Metro card purchased at the station. The machines accept cash. A Metro card (stored value) gives a small discount on fares.
Best value recommendation
The Airport Express Metro at INR 60 (EUR 0.65) is the best value in the world for an airport transfer of this quality. It is faster than road transport during peak hours and costs a fraction of any alternative. If your destination is not near the Metro, take the Express to New Delhi station and then an Uber/auto-rickshaw for the last leg — total cost under INR 200 (EUR 2.15) in most cases.
