Saving money

  • Japan Rail Pass covers the JR Rapid Airport train — if you have one, this ride is free
  • IC cards (Suica, Kitaca) work on the train and throughout Sapporo's subway — load one at the airport
  • The airport bus and JR train cost nearly the same, but the train is 40 minutes faster
  • For groups of 3–4, a private transfer at JPY 10,000–15,000 splits to JPY 2,500–5,000 per person — close to the train price with door-to-door convenience

Currency tips

Japan is still partly a cash society. Withdraw yen from the 7-Bank ATMs in the airport 7-Eleven — they reliably accept international cards. Have at least JPY 5,000–10,000 in cash for your first day.
