Several international flights land at Mactan-Cebu International Airport between 23:00 and 02:00, including routes from Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, and various Middle Eastern hubs. If you are on one of these flights, here is what to expect.
What is available after 22:00
| Option | Available? | Notes | |--------|-----------|-------| | White metered taxi | Yes | Queue may be longer, fewer drivers | | Yellow airport taxi | Yes | Same as white, slightly pricier | | Grab | Unreliable | Very few drivers accept rides after 22:00 | | MyBus | No | Last bus departs around 22:00 | | Pre-booked transfer | Yes | Driver waits regardless of your landing time |
The taxi queue is your most reliable on-the-spot option. Taxis operate 24 hours, but the supply of available cars drops significantly after midnight. You might wait 15–30 minutes instead of the usual 5–10. The fare stays the same — PHP 350–500 (EUR 5.50–8) to Cebu City by meter.
The Grab problem at night
Grab technically works 24 hours, but in practice, very few drivers are active in the Mactan airport area after 22:00. You may open the app and see no available cars, or face a long wait with cancellations. Do not count on Grab as your late-night plan.
Is the airport safe at night?
Yes. The terminal stays open around the clock. Security staff are present, the arrivals area is well-lit, and there are a few food outlets that remain open. You will not feel unsafe waiting inside the terminal at any hour.
The area immediately outside the terminal is also fine — the taxi queue is supervised and well-organized even at night.
The smart approach for late arrivals
If you know your flight arrives after 22:00, pre-book a transfer before you travel. The cost is PHP 600–900 (EUR 10–15) to Cebu City — only PHP 200–400 (EUR 3–6) more than a taxi. Your driver monitors your flight and adjusts for delays. When you walk out of arrivals at 01:00, someone is holding a board with your name. No app, no queue, no uncertainty.
This is especially important if you are heading somewhere beyond Cebu City — destinations like Moalboal or Oslob are a 3-hour drive, and finding a willing taxi driver for that journey at midnight is difficult.
What if your flight is delayed?
Delays are common on late-night flights. If you have pre-booked a transfer, the driver will track your flight and adjust accordingly — this is standard practice. If you are relying on a taxi, the queue situation may actually improve if your delay means you arrive when a fresh batch of drivers has come on shift.
Tips for late night arrivals
- Withdraw cash from the ATMs inside the terminal before exiting — you will need pesos for a taxi
- Buy a SIM card if the vendors are still open — they sometimes close by 23:00
- Use the restroom inside the terminal before heading out
- Have your hotel address written down in case you cannot get data on your phone
- Do not accept rides from unofficial drivers approaching you inside the terminal — use the official taxi queue or your pre-booked driver
