Both options get you from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to your destination. The question is which one fits your situation better. Here is an honest comparison.
Side-by-side comparison

When the taxi wins
If you are a solo traveler or couple arriving during daytime hours (08:00–20:00) with manageable luggage, a metered white taxi is the most economical choice. The queue is organized, and the ride is straightforward. You will save PHP 200–400 (EUR 3–6) compared to a pre-booked transfer.
Yellow airport taxis are slightly more expensive due to a higher flagdown rate but are otherwise identical.
When Grab wins
Grab gives you upfront pricing and cashless payment, which is convenient if you do not have Philippine pesos yet. During off-peak hours, Grab can actually be cheaper than a metered taxi. The downside is surge pricing during busy periods, which can push the fare well above taxi rates.
You need a Philippine SIM or roaming data to use the Grab app. If you buy a SIM card inside the terminal first, Grab becomes a solid option.
When a pre-booked transfer wins
Pre-booking makes the most sense when:
- You arrive late at night (after 22:00), when Grab is scarce and taxi queues are long
- You travel with children and need a car seat
- You have 4+ large bags and need a van
- You are heading to a distant destination like Moalboal or Oslob and want a fixed price agreed beforehand
- You simply do not want to deal with queues, apps, or negotiations after a long flight
The bottom line
There is no wrong answer here. Taxis work fine during the day. Grab works when it is not surging. A pre-booked transfer works every time, day or night, and the extra cost is small enough that most travelers find it worthwhile — especially after a long international flight.
