Getting from Cebu Airport with Kids and Family

Last updated: March 2026

Arriving at Mactan-Cebu International Airport with children is manageable, but a few things work differently than you might expect. Here is what families need to know.

The airport experience with kids

Terminal 2 (international) is modern, air-conditioned, and reasonably spacious. After immigration — which can take 20–40 minutes during peak times — you will collect bags and walk into the arrivals hall. Free luggage carts are available. There are restrooms with baby-changing facilities in both terminals.

If you need to feed or change a baby before heading out, do it inside the terminal. The options become limited once you are in a vehicle.

The car seat problem

This is the most important thing for families to understand: taxis and Grab vehicles in the Philippines do not carry child car seats. This is standard across the country, not just at the airport. Philippine law requires child restraints for children under 12, but enforcement in taxis is minimal and supply is essentially zero.

Your options:

  • Bring your own travel car seat or booster and install it in whatever vehicle you take
  • Pre-book a transfer and request a car seat in advance — this is the only way to reliably get one provided for you
  • Use a taxi without one — this is what most local families do, but it is your decision to make

Best transport option for families

| Family size | Recommended transport | Expected cost | |-------------|----------------------|---------------| | 2 adults + 1 child, 2 bags | Taxi or pre-booked sedan | PHP 350–900 (EUR 5.50–15) | | 2 adults + 2 children, 3 bags | Pre-booked sedan or van | PHP 600–1,200 (EUR 10–20) | | 2 adults + 3 children, 4+ bags | Pre-booked van | PHP 900–1,200 (EUR 15–20) | | Extended family (5+ people) | Pre-booked van | PHP 1,000–1,500 (EUR 16–24) |

A standard sedan fits two large suitcases in the trunk plus a couple of carry-ons. Anything more and you need a van.

Strollers and extra gear

Strollers can be folded and placed in the trunk of most vehicles. If you are traveling with a stroller, car seat, and multiple bags, a van is the sensible choice — trying to fit everything into a sedan creates a stressful start to your trip.

Tips for a smooth arrival

  • Buy a SIM card inside the terminal so you have data for navigation and communication
  • Use the restroom before leaving the terminal — the ride to Cebu City takes 30–60 minutes
  • Have Philippine pesos ready if taking a taxi — most do not accept cards
  • Pre-book if arriving after 20:00 — tired children and a taxi queue are not a good combination
  • Confirm car seat availability at least 24 hours before arrival if you are pre-booking a transfer

The honest recommendation

For families with young children, a pre-booked transfer is the best option. It costs PHP 200–400 (EUR 3–6) more than a taxi but removes the queue, guarantees a car seat if requested, and means a driver is waiting for you the moment you walk out. After a long flight with kids, that peace of mind is worth the small premium.
