When the Bybanen wins
For solo travellers or couples with standard luggage, the Bybanen is the obvious choice. The price difference is enormous. The ride is comfortable, with modern trams, free Wi-Fi, and views of the Bergen suburbs. The Byparken stop in the centre is steps from Bryggen and most hotels. The 45-minute journey is longer than a taxi, but you avoid any price anxiety and contribute to Bergen's excellent public transport.

A taxi saves 15-20 minutes and goes directly to your door. This matters if your hotel is not near a Bybanen stop, or if you have heavy luggage that would be awkward on public transport.
