Saving money on transport

The Bybanen is dramatically cheaper than any other option. If you are on a budget, it is the clear choice. A few tips:

  • Buy a day pass on the Skyss app if you plan to use public transport again the same day. It costs about NOK 105 / EUR 9 and covers all zones.
  • Travel in groups makes taxis more competitive. A taxi shared among 3-4 people works out to NOK 115-150 / EUR 10-13 per person, comparable to the light rail.
  • Avoid night tariffs if possible. Taxi rates jump after 5 PM on weekdays and all weekend. The difference can be NOK 100-150 / EUR 9-13 more.

Payment methods

Norway is nearly cashless. Credit and debit cards are accepted everywhere: taxis, ticket machines, shops, even the smallest kiosk. You do not need to carry Norwegian kroner in cash. The Skyss app for Bybanen tickets also accepts card payment.
