Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang – Everything You Need to Know

Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) is located about 35 km south of Nha Trang city center. The drive takes 35–50 minutes along the coastal highway. A taxi costs approximately VND 500,000–700,000 (about EUR 18–26). The airport shuttle bus costs VND 60,000 (about EUR 2.20). A pre-booked private transfer runs EUR 20–35 depending on vehicle type.

The distance between the airport and the city surprises many visitors. Unlike airports that sit on the edge of town, Cam Ranh is a proper drive south along a scenic but lengthy coastal road. Plan accordingly, especially if you arrive tired.

CXR has a relatively modern international terminal that opened in 2018. After landing, you walk through a jet bridge or across the tarmac to the arrivals area. International passengers go through immigration — Vietnam offers e-visas and visa-on-arrival for many nationalities, but processing can be slow when several flights land together. Budget 20–45 minutes for immigration.

Baggage claim is a standard hall with a few carousels. Luggage from domestic flights appears within 10–15 minutes; international bags can take longer.

Airport shuttle bus is the budget option. Buses depart regularly (roughly every 30–60 minutes) from outside the terminal and take the highway to Nha Trang's central bus station at 23 Thang 10 Street. The ride takes 45–70 minutes with a few stops. From the bus station, you will need another short taxi to your hotel.

Metered taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. The two main reputable companies are Mai Linh (green) and Vinasun (white). Always insist on the meter — do not accept a flat fare offered by drivers, as it will almost always be higher than the metered rate.

Grab (Southeast Asia's Uber equivalent) works at CXR. It is usually 20–30% cheaper than metered taxis. You need the Grab app installed and a local or international phone number. Walk to the Grab pickup point outside the terminal.

Private transfers are booked in advance and offer the most comfortable experience. The driver waits with a name sign, and the vehicle is typically a newer sedan or minivan. Many include a water bottle and meet-and-greet service.

CXR receives flights throughout the evening, including international charters that sometimes land after 11 PM. The airport handles late arrivals routinely.

The 35 km drive along the coastal highway is dark and quiet at night. The road is two lanes in places and not always well-lit. This is perfectly safe but can feel unsettling for first-time visitors. A pre-booked transfer removes any anxiety about navigating this at night.

The terminal is modern and manageable. Trolleys are available at baggage claim. The distance from the terminal to the pickup area is short and flat.
