Getting from Bahrain Airport with kids and family

Last updated: March 2026

Bahrain International Airport is one of the easier Gulf airports to navigate with a family. The new terminal is modern, distances are short, and the ride to your hotel in Manama takes under 20 minutes.

Inside the airport with children

The arrivals hall is spacious and air-conditioned. Trolleys are free and readily available. The walk from the gate to baggage claim and then to the exit is manageable, even with young children. There are baby-changing facilities in the terminal restrooms and a family lane at immigration (though availability varies). The overall atmosphere is calm compared to the larger, busier Gulf hubs.

Transport options for families

The child seat situation

Bahrain does not strictly enforce child seat laws for taxis, and airport taxis do not carry them. If your children are young enough to need a car seat, a pre-booked transfer is the only reliable way to get one. Specify the ages of your children when booking so the correct seats are provided. Some families bring their own travel car seat, which works in any vehicle.

Strollers and heavy luggage

A standard airport taxi can handle two large suitcases and a collapsed stroller, but it gets tight with a family of four and all their bags. If you are travelling with more luggage, request a larger vehicle at the taxi counter or book an MPV transfer. The path from arrivals to the taxi rank is flat and short, with no stairs to navigate.

Practical tips for families

Bahrain's climate is very hot from May to October, with temperatures routinely above 40 degrees Celsius. The walk from the terminal to the taxi rank is covered but brief outdoor exposure is unavoidable. All vehicles will have air conditioning running. If arriving in summer, have water ready for the children.

The ride to Manama is on well-maintained highways. There are no rough roads or difficult terrain. Most hotels are within 15-20 minutes of the airport, so even tired children will manage the journey without too much difficulty.

Recommended approach

For families with young children who need car seats, book a transfer in advance with seats specified. For families with older children and moderate luggage, an airport taxi is straightforward and affordable. The short distance makes any option manageable.
