Other destinations
Sweden does not set taxi prices (free price setting applies), so each company sets its own. At Arlanda, what limits the damage is Swedavia's agreement with the companies it lets operate there, which caps the fare within a marked zone. Treat that cap as a ceiling and ask for the company's actual price before you get in.
What you get with each
Taxi: Contracted taxis wait directly outside the arrivals hall at Terminal 5 and outside Terminal 2, and are available 24 hours a day. Ask the driver what price applies; if the company uses a fixed price, it should be shown on the taximeter before you set off, and the meter must stay on throughout the journey. Swedavia says only eco-friendly taxis are allowed to operate from Arlanda.
Pre-booked transfer: A driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, if meet-and-greet is included in your booking. Check what your booking includes, such as flight tracking, waiting time and luggage help, as this differs between bookings. The vehicle is reserved for you. Ask about child seats when booking. The price is locked when you book.

Important things to know about Arlanda taxis
There is no regulated tariff, so a company can legally charge what it likes. What protects you at Arlanda is narrower than people assume: contracted companies operate under a cap within a marked zone, published as a maximum of SEK 800 for 1-4 passengers and SEK 1,275 for 5-8, to one address.
Two things follow. First, the cap stops at the zone boundary; after that regular meter prices apply, so settle the price in advance. Second, a cap is not a quote: ask what the company actually charges. Swedavia also notes that taxis at Terminal 4 or SkyCity likely have no contract with Swedavia, and that companies must display comparative prices in large black digits on a yellow background.
The honest verdict
For many travellers going to central Stockholm, the taxi is a fine choice: the Swedavia cap puts a known ceiling on it and companies compete below that. A pre-booked transfer can be worth the extra cost when you need a specific vehicle type, child seats, or meet-and-greet at arrivals (if included in your booking); compare the quote with the taxi cap first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Arlanda taxis metered or fixed price?
Both, in effect. Most companies will give you a fixed price, and Swedavia's rule is that an agreed fixed price must be entered and visible in the taximeter before the journey starts — the meter runs throughout either way. Sweden has no regulated tariff, but Swedavia caps its contracted companies within the marked zone around the airport. Ask for the price before you get in.
