Arriving late at Ajaccio Airport: plan ahead

Last updated: March 2026

Ajaccio Airport is a small, seasonal airport. Late-night options are very limited compared to major airports. If you're landing after 8 PM, you need a plan.

The reality of late arrivals in Corsica

AJA is not a 24-hour operation. Most flights arrive between 8 AM and 9 PM. A few evening flights from Paris (Air France, Air Corsica) can land at 10-11 PM, especially in summer. But after that, the airport essentially shuts down.

What's available (and what isn't)

Shuttle bus — not running

The TCA shuttle to Ajaccio city stops running around 8-9 PM (exact time varies by season). Don't count on it for evening arrivals.

Taxis — maybe

Taxis may or may not be at the rank for late evening flights. During summer, drivers know the last flights and usually wait. In low season (October-March), the rank may be empty after 8 PM. If a taxi is there, expect the night surcharge (Tarif B or C): your €15-20 daytime fare becomes €20-28.

Pre-booked transfer — your only guarantee

This is the only transport option that guarantees a car is waiting for you at 10 PM or later. The driver tracks your flight and adjusts for delays. A sedan to Ajaccio center costs €25-35 at night.

Car rental desks — check closing times

Some rental desks close at 9 PM or even earlier. If your flight lands at 10:30 PM, the desk might be closed. Many companies have key drop boxes for late arrivals if you arrange it in advance. Always call ahead.

No ride-hailing

Remember: no Uber, no Bolt, no apps. You can't summon a car with your phone in Corsica.

What to do if you're stranded

If you arrive late and there's no taxi:

1. Call a taxi company: Ajaccio Taxis (+33 4 95 25 06 18) or similar. They can send a car in 10-20 minutes if one is available. 2. Ask at the airport information desk (if still open) — they can help call for transport. 3. Wait: If you know the airport is closing, there's no point staying. But the terminal does have seating. 4. Don't walk: The road to Ajaccio has no sidewalk and is unlit in places. It's dangerous at night.

Planning tips for late arrivals

  • Book a transfer in advance. This is the single best thing you can do. It costs €5-10 more than a taxi but it's guaranteed.
  • If renting a car, confirm after-hours pickup with the rental company before your trip.
  • Have your hotel's phone number handy. Some smaller hotels and B&Bs in Corsica have after-hours check-in procedures.
  • Download offline maps. Mobile signal can be patchy on Corsican roads outside the main towns.
  • Eat before you arrive. Late-night dining options in Ajaccio are limited outside July-August. The airport cafe closes early.
