Arriving at Malaga Airport late at night

Malaga Airport handles flights until midnight or later on many evenings. Late arrivals are routine, and the transport situation — while more limited than during the day — is manageable.

The terminal at night

Malaga Airport stays operational late into the evening. Arrivals processing continues as long as flights are scheduled. The terminal reduces its retail and café offering after about 10-11 PM, but essential services (ATMs, toilets, taxi access) remain.

The tourist information desk closes in the evening. If you need directions or local information, rely on your phone.

The train situation

The Cercanías C1 train stops running at approximately 11:40 PM from the airport. If your flight lands after roughly 11 PM (accounting for immigration and baggage claim), the train may not be an option. Check the exact last service on the RENFE website for your specific travel date.

For flights landing before 10:30-11 PM: the train is still your best bet for Malaga city. Fast, cheap, no queue.

For flights landing after 11 PM: no train. You need a taxi or transfer.

Taxis at night

Taxis are available 24 hours at Malaga Airport. The queue is much shorter at night than during peak day periods. At midnight, you would typically wait 5-10 minutes. The taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals exits.

Night supplements apply (from 10 PM), which increases fares by roughly 20-25% over the standard rate. A taxi to Malaga city at midnight might cost EUR 20-28 instead of EUR 15-22 during the day.

For coastal resorts: taxis are the practical option after midnight. A taxi to Marbella at 1 AM will cost EUR 65-90 (night rate) but will be available without a long wait.

Driving conditions at night

Malaga by night is generally easy driving. The A-7 coast road and AP-7 motorway are well-lit and much less congested than during summer days. Journey times to all destinations are faster:

• Malaga city: 15-20 minutes (vs 20-30 in traffic)
• Torremolinos: 15-20 minutes
• Marbella: 40-50 minutes (vs 50-65 in summer day traffic)

Early morning departures

Some budget carriers schedule early morning departures from Malaga (6-7 AM). The train does not start until around 6:30 AM. If your departure is before 8 AM, get to the airport early and consider a pre-booked transfer or taxi rather than waiting for the first train.

Practical advice

• If your flight lands before 11 PM: Use the train to Malaga city. Everything else is taxi or transfer.
• If your flight lands after 11 PM: Taxi from the rank is perfectly fine for Malaga and short coast destinations. Pre-book a transfer if you want certainty or are going to Marbella or beyond.
• Marbella late arrivals: A taxi to Marbella at 1 AM is a straightforward hire. The driver knows the route, the road is fast at night, and the price (night rate) is a modest premium over the day rate.
