Halifax Stanfield Airport: taxi or pre-booked transfer

Both options take you from the airport to Halifax, Dartmouth and beyond. The difference is how much is settled before you arrive.

Taxi or limousine at the curb

The airport page says taxis and limousines are available curbside outside Arrivals, and that shared-ride service may also be available through the Ground Transportation desk in the arrivals area. Ask whether the rate is fixed before you get in, and what it covers.

Rideshare

Rideshare vehicles pick up in a designated area on the ground transportation curb, outside Arrivals on the main level. The airport directs you to leave through the doors near the Ground Transportation booth, turn right and follow the signs to the marked spaces. The fare is shown in the app before you confirm and can vary with demand. You need mobile data to request a car.

Pre-booked transfer

You book before you travel and receive a confirmation with the meeting point and driver details. The price is fixed at booking, and the live quote on this page shows it for your destination. The airport notes that pre-arranged taxis and limousines must be booked in advance of your arrival, which is the same logic: the ride is settled before you land. Confirm at booking what is included, such as waiting time and luggage.

What changes the decision

Destination: the city is the simple case. For Truro, the Annapolis Valley, Lunenburg or Peggy's Cove, a fixed arrangement made in advance avoids negotiating a long fare at the curb.

Time of day: a curbside taxi is easy at a busy hour. After a very late arrival, a defined meeting point is more predictable than the line at the curb.

Group and luggage: a standard taxi may not take a family with several large cases. Say how many people and bags are travelling when you book.

When each makes sense

A curbside taxi suits you if you want to leave immediately and are happy to confirm the fare method at the booth.

Rideshare suits you if you have mobile data and want to see the fare first.

A pre-booked transfer suits you if you arrive late, travel with family or heavy luggage, head outside the city, or want the price and meeting point settled in advance.
