The one fare a public authority sets
Taxi trips between the airport and the Strip resort corridor are not metered. The Nevada Taxicab Authority established flat zone fares on 1 January 2020 — three zones running up the Strip — expressly to end long-hauling and to give riders a fare they can know in advance. A state excise tax and an airport fee are added, and paying by card costs extra.
The Authority revises these amounts from time to time, and has also run temporary event surcharges (it approved one for the Formula 1 weekend). So the current numbers live at taxi.nv.gov, not on a travel page written months ago. Check them there.
Anything outside the zones — downtown Fremont Street, Henderson, off-Strip resorts — goes back on the meter, where traffic does affect the fare.
What makes prices spike
Las Vegas transport pricing is event-driven. During major conventions (CES in January, SEMA in November), weekend nights, fight nights, and concert letouts, rideshare surge pricing can multiply normal rates.
Taxis do not surge: the zone fare is the zone fare. That is the single most useful thing to know about ground transport here, and it is why a taxi is often the cheaper choice on exactly the nights when everyone assumes it is the expensive one.
Tips for saving money
Check both Uber and Lyft before booking — prices differ and one app often has a better rate at any given moment. If both are surging, the taxi rank is your hedge, because a regulated flat fare cannot follow them up.

Tipping reminder
