Saipan is a small island, roughly 19 km long and 9 km wide. That means transfer distances are short compared to most airport destinations worldwide. The bigger challenge is not price — it is availability, and the fact that there is no metered taxi system or transport regulator publishing fixed fares on the island. Drive times from SPN
Chalan Kanoa: 5-10 minutes north of the airport. Some budget hotels and guesthouses are located here.

Garapan (main tourist strip): 10-15 minutes from the airport. This is where most visitors stay, with the concentration of resorts, restaurants, and the Managaha Island ferry terminal.
Beach Road hotels: 10-15 minutes. The hotels along Beach Road from Susupe to Garapan run along the western coast with ocean views the whole way.
Capitol Hill / San Roque: About 10 minutes. The government center area in the middle of the island.
San Jose: A short ride south, close to the airport. Some vacation rentals are in this area.
Northern end (Banzai Cliff, Bird Island area): 20-25 minutes. Few visitors stay this far north, but some private villas are located here.
Why there's no fixed price list
Saipan does not have a competitive transport market. There is no Uber, no Lyft, no public bus network, and no taxi meter. Your options are limited to taxis, hotel shuttles, pre-booked transfers, and rental cars.
Taxi fares are negotiated, not metered. The price depends on your negotiating skill, the driver, and the time of day — there is no authority setting or publishing a fare. Agree the price with the driver before you get in, and ask your hotel in advance what a fair local price looks like for your route.
Pre-booked transfers offer the advantage of a price agreed before you arrive. No negotiation at the curb, no surprises. The price you see at booking is the price you pay — check the exact figure at the time you book, since it isn't set by any island-wide standard.
Hotel shuttles
Several of the larger resorts offer airport transfer as part of their service, either complimentary or for a fee set by the hotel itself. Contact your hotel before arrival to check availability, and ask what the fee is — it varies by property.
Smaller hotels, guesthouses, and Airbnb rentals generally do not offer shuttle service. For these, a pre-booked transfer is the most reliable choice.
Rental cars
Renting a car on Saipan adds flexibility for the duration of your stay. Rates vary by agency and season — check directly with the rental company for current pricing. The island is easy to drive — one main road, minimal traffic, and most destinations are well-signed. If you plan to explore beyond your hotel, renting may be more cost-effective than booking multiple transfers.
Book early, especially during Japanese and Korean holiday seasons, when rental fleets can sell out.

Distances on Saipan are short — nowhere on the island is more than about 25 minutes from the airport.
